Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. About the role
As our Engineering Manager, you’ll join the Content Delivery Engineering team, reporting into the Global Video Engineering organization at NBCUniversal. The role is based in New York City, USA and is focused on leading a team of engineers providing design, operation, delivery and observation for our US, UK, EU and Africa based streaming products – Peacock, SkyShowtime, Showmax and Now/Wow.

Our team specializes in large-scale Multi-Content Delivery Network design and operations, performance telemetry and analytics, selection & interfacing with content origins via multiple workflows - dynamic ad insertion, manifest manipulation and integrating new player technologies.

 

Responsibilities

  • Inspire, mentor and lead our team of software and data engineers, as they design, configure, operate and maintain systems, software and managed services for our subscribers, providing technical insight as required.
  • Achieve effective resource management, user story mapping, sprint planning, review and retrospective meetings for the local team + associated resources across time zones as part of the design and delivery process.
  • Host and encourage lively solution debate with the team, ensuring all valid input is heard, while identifying and encouraging subject matter expert contribution.
  • Develop productive relationships with our third-party vendors and internal teams across the group that are critical to our progress, bringing a predictive and consistent approach to delivery, providing mediation as required.
  • Enjoy the pressure and take pride with being the center of attention from our teams, senior & program management, change, capacity planning, cyber and other key pillars of the business - being able to provide cross-discipline situation/incident briefings and presenting progress to key stakeholders as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a relevant field is preferred.
  • Demonstrable experience (2+ years) in an engineering leadership role.
  • 4+ years of experience in engineering as an individual contributor.
  • A track record in delivering and maintaining products and services via 24/7 on-call teams.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, e.g. scrum and kanban.
  • A flair for communicating in spoken and written English, to a wide variety of nationalities.
  • Operational knowledge of key internet technologies, eg TCP/IP, HTTP/S and DNS protocols.
  • Skilled using software repositories, CI/CD pipelines and test automation.
  • Effective use of SRE to achieve safe, consistent technology operations.
  • An understanding of Content Delivery Networks, Streaming media delivery and OTT concepts for scaled Live and VOD content distribution is preferable – full training can be provided.
