Job Description

NBC News Digital is hiring a well-sourced and sharp reporter on the Hollywood beat. This is someone who wants to break news on the biggest storylines of the moment and can publish deep and premium enterprise coverage and analysis of Hollywood and entertainment culture.

Success for the reporter in this role means regularly publishing exclusive and revelatory information, primarily for NBCNews.com’s sizeable audience and for a new newsletter this reporter will lead. This reporter will also be driven by bylining rich reported angles, including during major events such as the Oscars, Grammys and film releases as well as celebrity scandals and trials. 

In one given day, the reporter may be writing up for the newsletter exclusive news on the latest in the Blake Lively/Justin Baldoni case. In the next, they may be writing a smart insider’s look on Mikey Madison’s best actress win at the Oscars. In the next, they may be working on live updates with other reporters on fast-breaking Hollywood news that’s of wide interest.

The reporter has to be an impeccable and engaging writer who can capture the zeitgeist and be a thought leader in their space. Their source base must also be impeccable, with a broad range of well-placed and well-informed sources who will help them report on topics from a 360-degree perspective. 

This person will work closely with teams across Digital, with the NBC News business and economy unit and with the entertainment correspondent. The reporter will be part of the NBC News Digital team, with an immediate focus on writing for NBCNews.com, sharing their reporting with the broader network and then appearing on air if requested.

This position is based full-time in Los Angeles. It is designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 3 days per week. This position is represented by the NewsGuild - CWA.

  • An ability to write with flair and voice, while not veering into opinion

Qualifications

  • At least 8 years reporting on Hollywood and the entertainment industry
  • Impeccable journalistic standards and ethics and a high bar for sourcing 
  • Ability to produce fresh information for a 2x weekly newsletter
  • Ability to jump between breaking news, exclusives and deeper takes 
  • Comfortable discussing reporting on NBC platforms when needed

Additional Requirements

  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
