Job Description

The NBCU Local Technology & Operations organization provides the Technology & Workflow Solutions, Support, Media Operations, Production, Studio and Facilities services that power NBCU Local content creation and distribution.

We are looking for a Manager, News Operations to join the Operations team in Las Vegas, Nevada supporting Telemundo Las Vegas. As the Manager, News Operations, you will be primarily responsible for day-to-day oversight and management of the team within our Production Control Room. Job Responsibilities: 

  • Provide processes, resourcing and guidance to ensure team objectives & SLAs are met.
  • Hire, coach and develop team members throughout their career journey.
  • Develop & maintain strong stakeholder relationships, ensuring effective communication.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and execution of new workflows, projects and initiatives
  • Responsible for Productions Control Room and Studio Technology including direct supervision of Automated Production Control (APC) Operators.
  • Responsible for upkeep and maintenance of news vehicles.
  • Be fully proficient with the newsroom computer system (NRCS)
  • Responsible for maintaining station disaster recovery procedures for News team.
  • Have a deep understanding of media workflow efficiency tools that impact in house and field operations and train end users on how to use them.
  • Provide strategic, logistical planning, and insight to upcoming events, special programs and/or elements to be included in news coverage.
  • Must be available to work during major on-air events, breaking news, severe weather, new system integrations and updates, and be available 24-7.
  • Partner with 3rd party vendors and internal service providers to best service the needs of the operation and business
  • Ensure compliance with NBCUniversal cyber security policies and standards.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience, including minimum 2 years of leadership experience, consisting of people management, project leadership, or indirect leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in radio, television & film, journalism, operations, related fields, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience leading operational functions of mid to major market news or live event production operations.
  • Willingness and ability to work long hours, late nights, holidays and weekends as required.
  • Ability to articulate clear performance expectations, provide accountability for team members and communicate effectively across stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with media asset management systems and methodologies.
  • Ability to create a collaborative environment while rolling out new processes and procedures.
  • Strong problem solver with excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Must be willing to work in the field in all types of weather conditions, varying work schedules, and to travel as part of assigned duties.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., have a driver’s license and valid US Passport.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience managing personnel.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish fluency a plus
  • Have strong news judgment with knowledge of legal and ethical issues in multi-media platforms.
  • Experience in photojournalism and news editing.
  • Knowledgeable about FCC rules and laws pertaining to news broadcasting in multi-media platforms, and employment and labor regulations.
  • Understanding and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and technical expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently in a high pressure, breaking news, environment.
