Job Description

This is an opportunity to play a critical role in the digital evolution of NBC News, one of the world’s best known and most trusted news organizations. We are looking for a Sr. Full-Stack JavaScript Developer for the Analytics Framework Team, a part of NBC News Digital Technology.

You will be responsible for extending and maintaining a flexible, and extensible data gathering framework which is used across multiple platforms including web, mobile, and OTT. You will operate as a leader within the analytics framework team and work with other development teams to support best practices, and implementation of data gathering across the NBC News Digital portfolio.  You should have experience working with and mentoring Jr. developers and working to foster a culture of adaptability, respect, and ownership.

This position reports to the head of Analytics Framework and is based in Seattle, WA.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain JavaScript framework for web and mobile analytics reporting.
  • Provide tools and documentation such as browser extensions, web tools and software packages for cross team developers to implement analytics.
  • Be Knowledgeable of how our data is collected on all platforms and what it means.
  • Maintain testing of analytics and 3rd party tags based primarily on network requests.
  • Work closely with Data Engineers and Analysts to predict what data will be valuable most broadly
  • Demonstrate critical thinking for potential roadblocks; comprehend a bigger picture of the business and effectively communicate these issues to stakeholders
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to implement solutions that adhere to solution designs and schema
  • Understanding of modern cloud computing platforms and concepts (AWS preferred)

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Embrace a ‘builder’ mentality to automate processes, and push the business forward
  • 5+ years experience in a software developer role
  • Strong JavaScript proficiency with frameworks and vanilla.
  • Proficient deploying and maintaining node packages
  • Familiarity with web analytics solutions
  • Proficient with Linux environment
  • Passion for media and news
  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience

Bonus Points

  • Experience implementing reporting such as Adobe Analytics and Mparticle
  • Experience with cypress network testing
  • Experience with AMP development
  • Experience with streaming video analytics
  • Proficiency in Python
