NASTAD (National Alliance of State & Territorial AIDS Directors) is a leading non-partisan non-profit association that represents public health officials who administer HIV and hepatitis programs in the U.S. Our singular mission is to end the intersecting epidemics of HIV, viral hepatitis, and related conditions. We do this work by strengthening domestic and global governmental public health through advocacy, capacity building, and social justice. 

Each of NASTAD's six programmatic teams - Health Care Access, Health Systems Integration, Drug User Health, Hepatitis, Health Equity, and Prevention - interpret and influence policies, conduct trainings, offer technical assistance, and provide advocacy mobilization for U.S. health departments and ministries of health around the world to improve health outcomes for people living with HIV and viral hepatitis. 

NASTAD serves as the CDC National Technical Assistance Provider and the HRSA Systems Coordination Provider (SCP), as part of the Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America (EHE) initiative. As part of this work, NASTAD develops tools and resources to assist EHE Phase I HIV prevention programs and RWHAP Part A and B grantees by improving coordination across EHE stakeholders and health systems. 

Job Description

The Manager, Hepatitis will play a vital role in expanding and strengthening the capacity of the health department's viral hepatitis prevention and surveillance programs. The Manager’s core activities will be to lead the execution of NASTAD’s technical assistance (TA) activities in this area, co-leading projects in close collaboration with consultants and NASTAD colleagues. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, able to develop and lead new projects, work independently, and apply a health equity lens.   

Essential Duties 

  • Lead technical assistance design and delivery to hepatitis prevention and surveillance health department programs; triage and direct incoming technical assistance requests and assist with reporting/quality assurance.  

  • Interact with and respond to the needs of grantees in a timely manner. 

  • Collaborate with team members and broader NASTAD staff to produce technical assistance materials  tailored to a diverse set of audiences and organizational structures (i.e., toolkits, webinars, issue briefs, training presentations, etc.).  

  • Lead development of the Hepatitis Team’s newsletter as well as support other hepatitis-related projects. 

  • Contribute to programmatic monitoring, reporting, evaluation, and learning activities; and support the development and submission of regular reports to federal and private funders.   

  • Maintain strong working relationships with key external partners and participate in inter-agency meetings to advance TA activities and deliverables.  

  • Participate in cross-agency project teams to discuss coordinated technical assistance efforts across states and regionally in collaboration with multisectoral partners. 

  • Participate in cross-organizational strategic planning implementation and monitoring. 

  • Represent NASTAD at meetings, briefings, and consultations related to state health department and community-based HIV, hepatitis, and drug user health programs. 

  • Provide timely support to, and interaction with, NASTAD’s members through responsive and innovative messaging, mentoring, networking and technical assistance activities. 

  • Attend ongoing supervision, team, and organizational meetings.  

  • Participate in teambuilding, leadership, and professional development opportunities. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications

Experience, Expertise, and Education  

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher and 4 to 5 years of relevant work experience; or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrate the candidate’s ability to perform the position’s duties. 

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and multisectoral agencies. 

  • Prior experience working in viral hepatitis, HIV, and/or drug user health is preferred; substitute for lived experience with viral hepatitis, HIV, and/or drug use.

Additional Information

Environment and Scheduling 

Salary Range: $61,200 - $64,800  

  • Interest in working with an HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis public health organization. 

  • Interest in working within a diverse work environment. 

  • Willing to travel up to 20% of the time when it is safe to do so.
