Job Description

  • Educates and supports the on-board management with regards to HR policies, procedures and standards including but not limited to the company’s performance management, the progressive discipline procedures, the development procedures such as Position Change, Promotion Proposals, Potential Evaluation and the Grievance Procedures on board.
  • Partners with Department and Division Heads to ensure consistent and fair application of all tools, resources and trainings
  • Monitors and guides the management team in preparing and conducting their teams Appraisals according to company policy
  • ensures a commitment to crew satisfaction in the HR Office
  • Conducts company trainings such as Crew Orientation, MLC and Work Arrangements Work Schedule und Timesheet, Appraisal Training and any other HR Related Training that might be required in Operations
  • In cooperation with the Fleet Trainers organizes the training plans for the Fleet Trainers coming on board; supports the Fleet Trainers on board by promoting the trainings to the management teams
  • Working closely with the Crew Purser and Asst. Crew Purser. The HR Manager oversees activities relating to sign on and sign off procedures, crew immigration / customs and all other issues related to the HR Office
  • Develops direct reports to strengthen their current performance and prepare for future advancement
  • Provides open and honest performance feedback and takes appropriate action to improve performance. Creates a climate of trust and mutual respect
  • Provides counselling and guidance to crew members relating to work and personal issues
  • Witness to Security Investigations
  • In charge of the grievance procedure on board, investigating, tracking of and follow up on grievances in accordance with the MLC, CBA and the complaint procedure on board
  • In charge of the preparation and organization of Master Hearings, Warnings and Counsellings and their Documentation, serves in a support and advisory function to the Captain with regards to progressive disciplinary actions and is in attendance as Employer Representative in the meetings
  • Conducts and joins all Meetings as required, weekly HR Team Meeting, GM & HM Meeting, Staff Captains Meeting, Executive Committee Meeting
  • Supports the HR Office during turnaround days and other HR Office events as required
  • Does Periodic walking through the ship to ensure visibility and contact with the crew on board
  • Ensures the continuous update of clear and concise handover notes to eliminate any possible miscommunication that compromises the efficiency of set processes

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a hotel on land or two (2) years’ experience on board a cruise ship in similar position required.
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Any additional foreign language is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public communication skills.
  • Must have advanced administrative skills (Microsoft Office, especially Excel) Knowledge in MXP / ADONIS is a plus.
  • Must possess excellent leadership and people skills.
  • Must be knowledgeable in ISM / ISO, MLC and SQM Matters
