Job Description

  • To train, coach, council, support and delegate the Laundry Staff;
  • To ensure that all Guests and Crew linen, towels, personal clothing and uniforms as well as all table cloths and serviettes are cleaned and well maintained;
  • Participating in the laundry team and maintaining daily operation, including washing, ironing of bed lines, towels, tablecloths, napkins, uniforms, and guest clothing;
  • To ensure that all cleaning equipment is properly and securely stored away when not on duty and to keep assigned area clean and tidy at all times;
  • To ensure that the Laundry and equipment is cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis and to schedule wash downs during regular intervals;
  • Provide assistance to stateroom stewardess during turn around day by stripping beds, pillows and vacuuming the rooms and corridors;
  • To report work orders when deficiencies are noted or when maintenance is required and to follow up on the work orders in a timely manner;
  • Assisting with loading of luggage as directed;
  • To adhere to and to ensure that the Laundry Department Staff adheres to all Company Policies and Procedures, Manuals and Directives;
  • Other responsibilities, as assigned, but not limited to the above.

Qualifications

  • College degree is recommended for this position;
  • Experience in a hotel or a minimum experience of two (2) years on board a cruise ship in a similar position;
  • Previous background within laundry and dry cleaning operation;
  • Good spoken and written English required;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Must have very good organizational skills and show attention to detail;
  • Good administrative skills (basic knowledge in Outlook, Word and Excel) POS knowledge is a plus.
  • Basic accounting skills;
  • Very good organizational skills are necessary along with the ability to multitask;
  • Must possess excellent leadership skills and must be able to maintain a team spirit and the ability to interact with all levels of people;
  • Must be able to communicate and implement corrective action steps in an effective, yet diplomatic fashion;
  • Must be able to remain calm under pressure;
  • Needs to have an outgoing personality and has to possess a positive attitude, maintaining a friendly and approachable demeanour towards Crew and Officers at all times.

Additional Information

Financial Responsibilities

  • To ensure that the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment in the Laundry is implemented at all times;
  • To ensure that Safe Lifting Techniques are practiced at all times in the Laundry Department;
  • To be familiar with Ship´s Emergency plans;
  • To be familiar with Safe Working Practices.

Emergency Duties

  • To follow instructions on Safety Card;
  • To participate in Guest/Crew Lifeboat Drills as per instructions;
  • Other safety responsibilities, as assigned, but not limited to the above.

Team Communication and Meetings

  • To attend meetings with the Housekeeping Manager;
  • To communicate with the Housekeeping Manager as well as further Laundry staff on a regular basis;
  • To encourage and demonstrate good communication, excellent teamwork and continuous training, couching and counseling.
