Job Description

Organization

Reports to Master, second in command.

The Staff Captain is the head of Deck Divisionand a member of the ship’s SafetyCommittee.Designated Ship’s Security Officeras per the ISPS Ship’s Security Plan.

Authority

Delegated  authority  by the  Master  to  execute  responsibilities  as  head  of  the Deck  Divisionand  to serve as the Master’s deputy in his absence.

Functions and Responsibility

▪To organize bridge watches.

▪To organize watch keepingin port.

▪To monitor safety management.

▪To monitor ISPS and security management

▪Proper operation, maintenance and cleaning

▪Planningand organizing shipyard stays and yard work

▪Follow-up the computer-controlled maintenancesystem for deck

▪Ordering of necessary materials and spare partsfor deck maintenance

▪The ship’s stability, trim and draught

▪Responsible for discipline onboard

▪Ensure before departure that the ship is seaworthy

▪Safe and efficient operation of the deck department, including planning andexecution ofinternal and external maintenance of hull, deck, hotel accommodation, and safety and lifesaving equipment

▪Inspection of tanks, void spaces and compartments

▪Ensure that fresh water of suitable quantity is ordered and bunkered, and that qualityis monitoredin compliance withhealth regulations

▪Garbage Management Plan and delivery of garbage in ports

▪Responsible for Ballast Water Management Plan

▪Responsible for Sanitationonboard

▪Responsible for Pest Control onboard

▪Responsiblefor the ship’s key systems

▪Respect the Bridge Resource Management Manual and the SMS

▪The Staff Captainis the monitoring and supervising Officer forany deckcadets employed on board.

 

The Master and Staff Captain must not be away from the vessel at the same time.

Seaman's book

International Certificate of Vaccination
Pilotage Licence
Valid Passport
Certificate of Competence & endorsement
Endorsement of recognition
GMDSS endorsement/Certificate

Personal survival techniques
Personal safety and social responsibilities
Elementary first aid

Proficiency in survival craft/rescue boats
Advanced fire-fighting

Basic training for ships op. in polar waters

Crowd management

Previous experience in passenger ships
