Job Description

General Responsibilities 

The position description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the shipboard employee occupying this position. Employees may be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Company’s Safety, Quality and Environmental Standards. 

  • To work under the direction of the Cabin Steward, assisting in the various cleaning tasks. 

  • To clean bathrooms & toilets of guests cabins. 

  • To clean assigned section corridors, lockers  and pantries according to schedule and instruction from the Supervisor, following the detail of USPH and HACCP  standards. 

  • Responsible to bring any items required to and from other areas for keep of the sections. 

  • To remove food trays/ used dishes to designated areas.  

  • To collect trash/ garbage from guest cabins.  

  • To keep the locker properly stock of linen, towels, cleaning materials and amenities up to par level.  

  • Responsible for daily transportation and collection of clean/dirty linen/ towels to/from laundry to designated sections 

  • To report maintenance issues to cabin steward or Supervisor. 

  • To be responsible for cleanliness, maintenance and upkeep of all equipment and any other ship property that you work with.  

  • To have knowledge of sanitation procedures, the colour codes for cleaning and to know the correct chemicals for each purpose. 

  • To communicate with passengers about their demands and orders according to their request. 

  • To complete a Work Registration Form correctly and to submit it to the Supervisor in a timely manner. 

  • To adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures, Manuals and Directives. 

  • Assist with loading of luggage as directed by Chief Housekeeper.  

  • Other responsibilities, as assigned, but not limited to the above. 

Financial Responsibilities 

 

  • To be cost conscious with the use of cleaning materials, linen, towels and other consumables. 

  • To be cost conscious with locker inventory. 

  • To ensure that Company property is maintained properly and treated with respect at all times. 

Sanitation requirements 

  • To be trimmed and clean haircut for men and moderate coiffure for women.  

  • Always follow Company’s personal hygiene requirements. .  

  • To follow Handwashing routine while on duty and at any time your hands become contaminated.  

  • Prohibited to carry cigarettes or cellular telephones at any time on duty. 

Safety & Discipline Responsibilities 

You are required to: 

  • To properly use Personal Protective Equipment in work areas at all times. 

  • To practice Safe Lifting Techniques at all times. 

  • To be familiar with Ship´s Emergency plans 

  • To be familiar with Safe Working Practices 

  • Emergency Duties: 

  • To follow instructions on Safety Card. 

  • To participate in Guest/Crew Lifeboat Drills as per instructions. 

  • Wear the complete prescribed uniform and name badge as specified in Company Standards, complying with regulations relating to tattoos, hair and body decorations 

  • To do In Port Manning duties as scheduled and as required by Company policy. 

  • Other responsibilities, as assigned, but not limited to the above. 

Qualifications

Education/Position Requirements 

  • College Degree/Diploma beneficial. 

  • Experience of one (1) year in a hotel or onboard a cruise ship in similar position required. 

  • Previous Housekeeping experience beneficial. 

  • Very good spoken English. 

  • Basic German language required, any additional foreign language skills are a plus. 

  • Good communication skills. 

  • Must have good organizational skills and show attention to detail. 

  • Must undergo onboard USPH training. Previous Knowledge in this area is a plus. 

  • Must have initiative and the ability to work independently. 

  • Must be able to remain calm under pressure. 

  • Must be service minded with an outgoing, charming and friendly personality. 

Team Communication and Meetings 

  • To communicate with the Cabin Steward, as well as with your Supervisor on a regular basis. 

  • To attend meetings with the Housekeeping Manager on a daily basis.  

  • To respect your supervisor, accept requests without questioning, co-operate unselfishly and be a good team worker.  

Position Physical Requirements 

The following physical requirements apply to this position: 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

  • You must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. 

  • Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. 

  • You must have physical stamina to work long hours on your feet.  

  • You must be able to lift or to move up to 20 kg weight without assistance.   

  • If working in any Guest area (or where Guests may see you) you   are   not permitted to display any tattoos on any exposed part of your body when wearing uniform (summer or winter).
