Job Description

General Responsibilities 

 

The position description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the shipboard employee occupying this position. Employees may be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Company’s Safety, Quality and Environmental Standards. 

 

  • To support Chief Housekeeper in overseeing of daily Housekeeping operation, cleaning procedures and maintenance of all Guest areas including cabins, laundries, public areas and public restrooms. 

  • To ensure that the entire Housekeeping Department is updated with relevant shipboard information at all times. 

  • Partners with Executive Housekeeper to permanently resolve recurring service failures through root cause analysis and effective problem solving techniques. 

  • To ensure that the highest standards of cleanliness are maintained in all areas under Housekeeping responsibility and overseeing cleaning procedures (according to schedule and instructions), following the detail of USPH and HACCP standards at all times. 

  • To share work load with Chief Housekeeper in ensuring that the Shipboard Sanitation Program is followed and executed at all times and that all Sanitation Log sheets are updated and completed. 

  • To carry out daily inspections of all areas under Housekeeping responsibility, to ensure any points which are not up to standards are corrected.  

  • To conduct on-job- trainings for all newly joined crew in Housekeeping department, as well as monitor their performance.  

  • Responsible to complete weekly general supply requisition.  

  • Monitor and maintain inventory of all Housekeeping areas equipment and cleaning supplies. 

  • Overall scheduling of the team with work assignments. 

  • Prepare any other paperwork as required by Chief Housekeeper. 

  • To ensure that any Maintenance issues in Guest areas are reported in a timely manner and that the work orders are followed up on accordingly. 

  • To supervise the entire luggage operation on the last night of the cruise to ensure all guest luggage is removed from corridors and placed in the appropriate luggage collecting locations.  

  • To complete a Work Registration Form correctly every day and to submit it to the Chief Housekeeper  in a timely manner.  

  • To adhere to, and to ensure that the Housekeeping Department Staff adheres to all Company Policies and Procedures, Manuals and Directives. 

 

  • To perform any other duties set by company policies, Management or his/her direct superior and not included in the above job description. 

 

Financial Responsibilities 

 

  • To monitor and control the use of cleaning materials and consumables in the Housekeeping Department. 

  • To monitor and control stock and issuing of linen.  

  • To ensure that Company property is maintained properly and treated with respect at all times. 

Sanitation requirements 

 

  • Handwashing before the start of duty and at any time your hands become contaminated – and enforce Handwashing throughout the Section. 

  • Inspect and ensure all personnel in the Department follow the Company’s personal hygiene requirements. 

  • Prohibit and prevent Section personnel carrying cigarettes or cellular telephones at any time on duty.. 

Safety & Discipline Responsibilities 

You are required to: 

  • Read, understand, and implement the Mission Statement of the Company. 

  • Wear the complete prescribed uniform and name badge as specified in Company Standards, complying with regulations relating to tattoos, hair and body decorations 

  • Attend and participate as required in all emergency drills, carry personal emergency card, and understand emergency duties. 

  • To properly use Personal Protective Equipment in work areas at all times.  

  • To do In Port Manning duties as scheduled and as required by Company policy. 

  • Other responsibilities, as assigned, but not limited to the above. 

Qualifications

Education/Position Requirements 

  • College Degree/Diploma beneficial. 

  • Hotel Management School beneficial. 

  • Fluent written and spoken English. 

  • Advanced German skills required; any additional foreign language would be a plus. 

  • Must have Typing, Windows XP, Word, Excel and MS Outlook skills. Additional, Stock Control System, POS System. 

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience hotel or one (1) year experience onboard a cruise ship in a Housekeeping Supervisory/Managerial position preferred. 

 

  • Must have excellent organizational skills and show attention to detail. 

  • Must possess excellent leadership and human resource management skills and the ability to interact with all levels of people. 

  • Must be able to communicate and implement corrective action steps in an effective, yet diplomatic fashion. 

  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines and to work to established standards. 

  • Needs to have an outgoing personality and has to possess a positive attitude, maintaining a friendly and approachable demeanour at all times. 

 

Team Communication and Meetings 

  • Attend daily meetings with Chief Housekeeper   

  • Conduct meetings with the Housekeeping Staff as per schedule or if requested by Chief Housekeeper 

  • Conduct  meetings with the Laundry Master as per schedule or if requested by Chief Housekeeper 

  • Ensure that all subordinate crew are fully aware of all operational instructions. 

  • Ensure that Housekeeping department notice board is neat and updated at all times. 

  • Lead subordinates successfully into productive working methods by setting an example and utilizing all available management tools. 

  • Provide a two-way line of communication for crew. 

  • Dealing with day-to-day problems, including personal problems. 

  • Deal with proposals and suggestions from Housekeeping  staff, report to Chief Housekeeper 

 

Position Physical Requirements 

 

The following physical requirements apply to this position: 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

  • You must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. 

  • Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. 

  • If working in any Guest area (or where Guests may see you) you   are   not permitted to display any tattoos on any exposed part of your body when wearing uniform (summer or winter).
