Job Description

The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of cranes to lift, move, load, and position equipment, materials, and cargo while ensuring compliance with lifting procedures and HSE requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate offshore/industrial cranes safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections and functional checks of cranes and lifting equipment.
  • Perform lifting and lowering operations in accordance with approved lift plans.
  • Coordinate lifting activities with banksmen, riggers, and deck personnel.
  • Monitor crane capacity, load charts, weather conditions, and lifting limits.
  • Maintain clear communication during lifting operations.
  • Report crane defects, malfunctions, or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain crane operating and inspection records.
  • Assist with routine crane maintenance and housekeeping.
  • Participate in lifting drills, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with Permit to Work, lifting plans, and company HSE procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of SSCE/OND or relevant technical qualification.
  • Valid and recognised Crane Operator certification/licence appropriate to the crane type.
  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience operating cranes, preferably offshore or in oil & gas.
  • Experience with offshore pedestal cranes is an advantage.
  • Valid offshore safety certification such as BOSIET/FOET where applicable.
  • Valid offshore medical fitness certificate.
  • Relevant lifting and rigging certification is an advantage.
