Job Description

A marine logistics service provider is seeking a Technical Superintendent to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical management of assigned vessels, maintaining high operational availability and compliance with safety and statutory regulations while embedding the company's QHSE culture onboard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe application of the company’s safety policies and promote a QHSE-driven culture onboard all assigned vessels.

  • Manage OPEX/CAPEX budgets for assigned vessels, ensuring cost discipline.

  • Maintain a 95% Technical Availability Rate (TAR) to optimize vessel availability.

  • Ensure zero Lost Time Injuries (LTIs) and accidents.

  • Oversee accurate and timely reporting of technical incidents, breakdowns, and interventions (UPMP, PMP, UJ reports).

  • Ensure timely and cost-effective repairs in accordance with Class and statutory requirements.

  • Maintain up-to-date Class, statutory, and related technical certificates for all vessels.

  • Validate purchase requisitions and orders related to parts, services, and consumables.

  • Liaise with Classification Societies for surveys, certificate renewals, and Class status reports.

  • Prepare vessels for drydock within the designated window and ensure no drydock extensions.

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external partners (BTS, Shipyards).

  • Conduct regular onboard visits, including technical and electrical inspections (VTI).

  • Oversee proper handovers during vessel transfers between ship managers.

  • Manage Chief Engineers, including annual appraisals, competency evaluations, and career development.

  • Implement and ensure timely updates in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS/TA).

  • Conduct monthly reviews of vessel CCTV footage to identify and escalate security or operational concerns.

  • Ensure routine lube oil analysis is conducted and reported per SMS/TA requirements.

  • Maintain and update complete vessel inventory records.

  • Keep abreast of new maritime regulations and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a similar certification.

  • Strong knowledge of vessel technical operations, repair, and maintenance.

  • Experience managing budgets and working with CMMS systems.

  • Familiarity with classification societies, flag state requirements, and ISM Code.

  • Proven leadership in managing multi-vessel fleets and technical teams.
