Our client is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join their team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of our firm, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for an entry-level or mid-level experienced accountant to contribute to the success of their dynamic architecture firm. This individual must be able to successfully manage interpersonal relations and communicate clearly to effectively support architectural staff, specifically including Principals and Project Managers. 

Job Description

  • Invoicing – prepare monthly invoices, % complete and time and expense billing
  • Accounts Receivable/Collections – follow-up with clients to collect receivables, schedule payments to consultants
  • Accounts Payable – review and process all project-related consultant invoices in accordance with proposal/contracts
  • Project Management – Work closely with principals and project managers to assist in monitoring project performance.
  • Monthly Financial Reporting – Assist in calculation of revenue recognition relative to project performance based on estimates to complete.
  • Maintain and update financial records, including general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow, budgets, and financial forecasts.
  • Prepare and file tax returns, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and tax professionals during audits.
  • Manage vendor relationships and oversee the accounts payable process.
  • Assist in the preparation of project budgets and financial reports for clients.
  • Analyse financial data to identify trends and recommend cost-saving measures.
  • Participate in financial planning and strategy development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or other relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Accounting experience, preferably in a professional service industry, i.e. Architectural or Engineering.
  • 0-3 years of experience in accounting or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and MS Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Prior experience in the architecture or construction industry is a plus but not required.
