Company Description
Our client is a specialty chemical and fluid management and engineering solutions company, supplying key chemicals and production solutions to a wide range of customers operating in the downstream oil and gas, automotive and industrial sectors in Africa.
They are seeking to hire an experienced or interest in Human Resource Lead with a background in law to carry out HR and Corporate Services functions such as supporting Community Engagement, Oversee Corpoarte Registration, Enagemement with Security Bodies and government representatives.
Job Description
Essential Functions Include:
- Administers various regional HR policies, programs, and procedures.
- Drafts necessary documents and forms to support policies and procedures.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Support Human Resources on legal, regulatory, and compliance matters as may be applicable to the business and manage the legal aspect of client relationships.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and legal requirements including maintenance/update of a compliance calendar and ensuring legal and regulatory returns are submitted when due.
- Ensure contracts are in place for all business relationships and negotiate, draft and review all contracts / complex commercial agreements, evaluate business risks and make recommendations to management on how to prevent/mitigate such risks, and develop a Contracts database for the company.
- Establish and maintain an organized filing system for the proper filing and easy retrieval of all legal documents - title documents, agreements, certificates, letters etc.
- Manage relationships with the company's external solicitors and provide oversight for all outsourced legal and secretarial services, oversee, and advance the company's position in negotiated settlements with external parties and follow up on any litigations.
- Provide legal support and promote Corporate ethics and compliance and train all employees on the company's policies and processes.
- Provide oversight on ensuring prompt settlement of rents, rates and land charges as well as government revenue demands such as property tenement rates, ground rents, business premises permit etc.
- Safeguard the Company's legal and corporate records by ensuring centralised filing and effective archive management.
- Assists management and end users in the development, writing, and updating of policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
- Carry out such other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications
- LLB Degree in Law
- 10 years plus cognate work experience in a law firm, experience with labour law, working as a Human Resource lead in a reputable and structured business environment.
- Relevant professional qualification such as Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, CIPM, CIPD etc. is an added advantage.
- Ability to listen, negotiate and influence all categories of people and act calmly and reasonably even under pressure
- He / She must possess a high level of expertise in supporting in their delivery of legal services to clients in areas such as Corporate Secretarial, HR, Administrative, Governance, and Regulatory, Legal Advice, Corporate Documents, including, but not limited to Company Law, Client and Community relationship service, etc.
- Demonstrates highly effective and strong stakeholder management and organization skills.
- Displays high-level intelligence in business and client management portfolio.
- He / She can recognize and evaluate relevant facts and legal concepts.
- Must possess interpersonal skills including but not limited to resolving conflicts, negotiating, and relating well with various types of clients.
- Must have good secretarial skills and an ability to understand and manage complex legal entity documentation.
- Good reporting skills and absolute command of Microsoft Office applications.
