Job Description

The objective of your role is to

  • perform diagnostic tests necessary for evaluation of eye conditions
  • Provide ophthalmic care of the highest quality, which is safe, and in accordance with the Clinic Policy and international standards of ophthalmic practice.
  • Assisting the doctor in surgeries and day-to-day practices.
  • Maintenance of ophthalmic equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to the following:

  • Perform preliminary screening examinations for physician review.
  • Direct the flow of patients examined by an physician, obtain medical and personal data for patient charts, screen patients for conditions excluding ocular examination, arrange for laboratory and other tests, outpatient studies and patient admissions and surgery as requested by physician, alleviate patient and family concerns by explaining diagnostic procedures and method of treatment.
  • Calibrate and maintain all instruments used including, but not limited to, biomicroscopes, lensometer, keratometer, slit lamp, tonometers and auto refraction devise, clean and stock consultation rooms and procedure rooms with drugs and other supplies as needed.
  • Set up instruments and assist in ophthalmic procedures.
  • Assess patient care needs and establish priorities for intervention.
  • Base clinical practices on current knowledge, research and previous experience.
  • Accurately document required records in a legible and concise manner in accordance with clinic's Documentation Standards.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
  • Confront areas of concern using effective problem solving and decision-making skills in a way that enhances positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate management concerns and decisions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Adapt to changing needs and situations in a positive and productive manner.
  • Demonstrate effective time management and priority setting skills in daily patient care.
  • Contribute positively to the implementation of change and minimize resistance where possible.
  • Identify health education needs of patients/families and develops teaching/Health Education plans.
  • Maintain current licensure/certification in country of registration

  • Maintain Patient and Clinic confidentiality at all times.
  • Demonstrate a responsible attitude to professional development.

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in nursing, optometry or related field

1-2 years of previous experience in relevant role

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:

1. Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice.
2. No regular travel required.
