Job Description
A Day in the Life
Uses effective customer service and interpersonal skills at all times. Plans and supervises the delivery of all volunteer services throughout the service area, including developing new opportunities for volunteers within the Hospice program. Assigns volunteers to support patient care, provide respite care for families, assist with household chores, provide program support, serve on committees, participate in fundraising, and meet other identified program needs.
Recruits, interviews, selects, trains, supports, and recognizes volunteers while evaluating assignments to ensure appropriate utilization and promote volunteer retention. Works closely with the Hospice Bereavement Coordinator to train volunteers to facilitate grief support groups throughout the service territory.
Maintains and monitors a record-keeping system that documents services delivered and actual time involved to meet Medicare regulations. Designs and oversees volunteer orientation, ongoing education, and support meetings to ensure volunteers understand and follow Hospice philosophy, policies, and practices. Facilitates and organizes competency evaluations during volunteer orientation and annually thereafter.
Counsels and dismisses volunteers when appropriate and in accordance with policy. Monitors and evaluates volunteer performance, including timely documentation and attendance at educational and support meetings. Attends interdisciplinary team meetings. Maintains proficiency in the basic functions of the email program, regularly checks email, and keeps calendars up to date. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
What’s Required
- Associates degree in education, health administration, human resources or similar field required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- One year experience in recruitment, program development, planning or community relations required.
- Proven ability to exercise independent judgment as well as to work with others.
- Excellent written and oral skills. Must be able to compose written communications and prepare presentations with good grammar, spelling, punctuation and syntax. Computer literate.
