Job Description
A Day in the Life
Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of Munson Healthcare while embracing the organization's Performance Improvement philosophy and promoting both personal and patient safety. Provides excellent customer service and interpersonal communication, accurately transcribes physician orders using appropriate tools and systems, and answers telephones while recording and processing messages efficiently. Coordinates patient flow by greeting patients and families, facilitating admissions, transfers, and discharges, and communicating with appropriate departments. Maintains patient charts and medical records in proper order, prepares new charts, obtains previous records as needed, files diagnostic reports and other clinical documentation, and ensures charts are recognized and maintained as legal documents while protecting patient confidentiality. Reviews physician orders, prioritizes STAT and urgent requests, enters treatment and diagnostic orders into the computer system, and notifies ancillary departments as necessary. Monitors pre-surgical documentation, authorizations, and required paperwork, maintains daily census records and applicable logbooks, coordinates patient transfers and room availability with Environmental Services, and assembles discharged patient charts according to Medical Records standards. Performs a variety of clerical and computer-based responsibilities, including maintaining unit supplies, bulletin boards, treatment and physician baskets, and office inventory, while communicating with physician offices to coordinate discharge instructions, follow-up appointments, and procedures. Sorts and distributes mail, responds to patient call systems when applicable, assists with medication storage and inventory as delegated, remains alert to safety hazards and reports concerns appropriately, fulfills Code Blue responsibilities by initiating emergency procedures and supporting critical patient transfers, completes assigned tasks in a timely manner, and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
What’s Required
High school graduate with excellent spelling and work comprehension.
Successful completion of Medical Terminology course or demonstration of equivalent experience.
Human relations and interpersonal relationship skills required.
Exceptional organizational skills.
