Job Description
A Day in the Life of an Oncology Clinical Pharmacist
The POEM Clinical Pharmacist is an integral member of the Cowell Family Cancer Center and oncology service line, focused on optimizing patient outcomes through comprehensive medication management, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This role provides education for patients receiving intravenous and oral anticancer therapies, ensuring patients and caregivers understand treatment goals, administration requirements, potential adverse effects, and the importance of medication adherence. The pharmacist monitors patient response and adherence to therapy, identifies barriers to treatment, and provides recommendations to support safe and effective care. In collaboration with providers, the POEM Clinical Pharmacist evaluates treatment plans, verifies diagnoses and medication orders, and ensures the accuracy and appropriateness of chemotherapy dosing, supportive care, and monitoring parameters. Additional responsibilities include staff and provider education, maintenance of the chemotherapy regimen library, participation in quality improvement and research initiatives, oversight of hazardous drug safety practices, and supervision of support personnel.
Qualifications
What’s Required
- Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy degree or higher
- Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Michigan or eligible for licensure*
- Eligible for licensure/licensure requirements is defined as:
- State of Michigan licensure as a Registered Pharmacists is required within 90 days of employment
- Those seeking licensure in the state of Michigan will have 90 days to do so.
- If at 90 days licensure is not obtained, continued employment will be evaluated and termination of employment may occur.
- All clinical pharmacists job duties will be performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist until licensure in the State of Michigan is obtained AND training has been successfully completed.
- Health-system experience or PGY-1 residency completion preferred, but not required
- PGY-2 Residency completion desired but not required for specialty areas (ED, OR, ONC)
- Board Certification preferred, but not required

Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, no weekends
