Morguard is now hiring for a newly created role – Assistant Accounting Manager – to support our team. Our department of 14 are responsible for the Accounting & Finance operations of our residential and mixed-use real estate portfolio across the United States.

In this role:

You’ll report to, and work closely with, the Residential Financial Accounting Manager while performing full-cycle accounting with a focus on ensuring the accurate completion of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and consolidated reporting packages.

You’re analytical, detail-oriented, and enjoy working in a high-volume environment. You have extensive Accounting experience, specifically in some context of commercial retail or multifamily residential real estate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting – Residential and Mixed use

  • Assist in reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple ownership groups with compliance as required under IFRS.
  • Assist with quarterly reporting packages for multiple ownership groups including all supporting lead schedules & variance explanations.
  • Calculates and distributes quarterly journal entries, including FV IPP, IFRIC21 & income tax for MRG
  • Prepares journal entries to ensure proper recording, including acquisitions, dispositions, and mortgage refinancing’s.
  • Responsible for the accounting of joint ventures (i.e., HOOPP) ensuring any adjustments are properly recorded on a monthly & quarterly basis.
  • Responsible for the review of all quarter end schedules ensuring any adjustments are properly recorded on a quarterly basis.
  • Responsible for completing the monthly financials for parent company MNAR

Budgeting and Forecasting – Residential and Mixed use

  • Assists with the completion of the annual budgeting and forecasting process while coordinating and planning schedules to ensure timely delivery of assigned requests with proper review & sign off on schedules, financial statements & reporting packages.

External Reporting

  • Responsible for the compilation of various financial statements for external users such as third-party investors, mortgage lenders, banks & insurance carriers.

Annual Financial Audits

  • Receives, coordinates, and ensures that appropriate information requests from internal and external parties, including external auditors, on financial activities and status are responded to in a timely and accurate manner to facilitate decision making.

Management and Development of Staff

  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, managing, performance reviews as well as mentoring & coaching within the residential accounting team in addition to monitoring direct and indirect reports to ensure growth & development within the team meets management’s expectations

Cash Management

  • Responsible for review and approval of all monthly bank reconciliations
  • Responsible for recording transactions and balancing the MNAR concentration bank account

 

 

Qualifications

Skills you bring to the team:

  • Previous experience within Real Estate accounting operations
  • Proven working experience as an Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor or Finance Manager
  • Advanced computer skills on MS Office, specifically Excel, as well as accounting software and databases. Previous experience with Yardi Voyager is ideal but not required
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations. Familiarity with IFRS compliance a benefit
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or Finance
