Job Description

The Manager, Electrical Engineering will lead and manage a team of electrical engineers and electrical designers in the design, development and implementation of electrical systems and equipment. This role will oversee project timelines, budgets and resource allocation to ensure timely and cost-effective project completion. The EE Manager will also ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations and provide technical guidance and foster a high-performing team environment.   

 

Accountabilities 

  • Assist Electrical Engineers and Designers in developing and adhering to design techniques and processes to boost project efficiency. 
  • Serve as the lead subject matter expert for Electrical Engineering consultative services, focusing on material selection and design concepts that maintain product integrity, comply with industry standards, and meet client specifications. 
  • Maintain internal department processes, provide professional expertise to aid team development, and optimize departmental capabilities to maximize human capital resources, focusing on cycle time, quality, and value. 
  • Improve Mission Critical Group’s reputation and sustainability by reducing operational costs and enhancing quality through the management and improvement of Electrical Engineering processes, leading to innovative products. 
  • Identify and implement advanced tools within the engineering and manufacturing departments to increase efficiency and quality. 
  • Manage Electrical Engineering manpower, resources, and tools to meet clients' technical and scheduling needs. 
  • Demonstrate leadership by coordinating with the Estimating Department to ensure accurate quote execution and collaborating with Manufacturing Managers to monitor project progress and efficiency. 
  • Work with the Estimating Department to ensure accurate quotes and collaborate with Manufacturing Managers to oversee project progress and efficiency.
  • Recommend budget expenditures and appropriations for research and development, focusing on product simplification and standardization, cost reduction, and process improvement. 
  • Coordinate with the Mechanical Engineering and Building Design Departments to share technical details, develop finalized designs, and ensure detailed and compliant designs are provided to clients and manufacturing. 

Qualifications

Required Knowledge / Experience 

  • 10+ years of electrical engineering design experience in the Marine, Heavy Industrial, and/or Oil & Gas industries  
  • 5 years of experience in electro-mechanical power system design, including low voltage, medium voltage, power distribution and controls, and motor control centers 
  • 2 years of experience leading and managing an engineering team 
  • Proven experience in electrical engineering design, particularly in the oil and gas, marine, and energy sectors. 
  • Knowledge of 3D Mechanical Design applications such as Pro E Wildfire, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor. Proficient with Microsoft Office Business Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) as well as MRP/ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, AS400 
  • Knowledgeable of UL Standards (UL‐1558, UL‐891, UL‐67, UL‐508, UL‐845 and UL‐DLAH). Familiar with regional utility codes in Chicago, New York, California, etc. 
  • Proficiency in mechanical engineering software and tools. 
  • Excellent project management abilities. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, components, and design principles. 
  • Ability to prioritize workload, multi-task, and work under pressure in a demanding environment.  
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines 

Preferred 

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, a related field, or a Master of Business Administration  
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT). 
  • Mid- to upper-level management experience

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
