Director, Marketing

  • Full-time
  • Department: Product Management
  • Job Site: Any MCG Location
  • FLSA Status: Exempt

Company Description

Mission Critical Group (MCG) is a U.S.-based electrical systems and solutions provider that reduces time-to-power through its broad product portfolio, modular solutions, and more than one million square feet of U.S. manufacturing capacity.

We bring design, manufacturing, and advanced services together to deliver power reliability, scalability, and speed.

Job Description

The Director, Marketing is a central operations role serving all MCG Centers of Excellence, accountable for building the enterprise strategic marketing function and translating MCG’s engineered products and lifecycle services into positioning, go-to-market programs, and sales enablement that win work.

This is a build role and a player-coach role. The person in this seat personally produces the early work, competitive analysis, positioning architecture, launch plans, and customer-facing materials, while standing up the processes, tools, and team that scale it across the enterprise. Success requires strategic judgment and a willingness to execute directly while the infrastructure is still being built.

Accountabilities:

  • Enterprise marketing strategy: Build and own the strategic marketing plan supporting commercial growth across all six Centers of Excellence, translating enterprise and business unit priorities into a prioritized roadmap and campaign calendar.
  • Positioning and messaging: Develop positioning, messaging architecture, value propositions, and competitive differentiation for MCG’s integrated power solutions and lifecycle services and hold the organization to consistent use of it.
  • Go-to-market: Lead go-to-market strategy and execution for new products, services, and solutions, from launch planning through sales readiness, launch execution, and post-launch performance review.
  • Technical translation: Partner with Product Management, Engineering, and operations leadership to convert technical capability into customer value in language that owners, engineering firms, contractors, and specifiers understand.
  • Integrated campaigns: Plan and execute integrated campaigns across digital, email, paid media, social, trade events, and industry publications; establish KPIs, measure performance, and reallocate effort and spend based on results.
  • Digital presence: Own SEO, SEM, and website strategy and optimization, and build the campaign analytics and reporting foundation the enterprise currently lacks.
  • Market intelligence: Monitor customer requirements, competitor activity, and market dynamics across data center, utility, healthcare, industrial, and commercial segments, and convert findings into recommendations leadership can act on.
  • Sales enablement: Partner with Sales to develop presentations, case studies, solution briefs, spec sheets, and proposal content; support strategic pursuits, customer meetings, trade shows, and product launches.
  • Content production: Direct video, photography, and visual content production, including storyboard development, managing internal resources and agency partners to a consistent brand standard.
  • Growth and integration marketing: Support MCG’s growth agenda, including positioning, brand integration, and capability messaging associated with acquisitions and newly added service lines.
  • Operating model: Establish how the Centers of Excellence request, prioritize, and receive marketing support, and report performance through a consistent enterprise reporting cadence.
  • Team build and leadership: Build and lead the strategic marketing team. Define roles, hire ahead of demand, develop capability, and manage day-to-day priorities and deliverables.
  • Budget and partners: Manage assigned budgets, agency relationships, and marketing vendors, holding partners accountable to scope, timeline, and measurable return.
  • Direct execution: Personally execute priority deliverables during the build phase rather than routing all work to a team or agency.

Qualifications

Attributes:

  • Have Humanity: You lead with respect for the customers, crews, and colleagues behind every project MCG supports. You market what the business can actually deliver, and you give credit to the people who deliver it.
  • Be Transparent: You report marketing performance honestly, including the programs that did not work. You share plans, priorities, and results openly so every Center of Excellence knows what is coming and why.
  • Drive Innovation: You challenge established messaging, channels, and habits rather than repeating what has always been done. You test new approaches, measure them, and retire what does not produce.
  • Be Resilient: You hold momentum through shifting priorities, competing business unit demands, and long capital sales cycles. You adjust the plan when conditions change without losing the strategy behind it.
  • Always Reliable: You deliver on committed dates and quality standards, so Sales and business unit leaders know exactly what they are getting from you. You are the partner they call first because you follow through.
  • Grit: You do the work personally when the team, the tools, and the budget are still being built. You stay with the unglamorous parts of the build until the function can stand on its own.

Required Knowledge / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive B2B marketing experience, including strategic marketing, product marketing, and go-to-market leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience building or substantially rebuilding a marketing function, program, or discipline rather than inheriting a mature one.
  • Experience marketing engineered, technical, or capital equipment products through long, multi-stakeholder sales cycles.
  • Experience supporting multiple business units, divisions, or product lines from a central or shared-services position.
  • Strong digital marketing capability across SEO, SEM, website, email, and campaign analytics, with proficiency in marketing automation, CRM, and analytics platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to build sales enablement materials and partner effectively with commercial and technical teams.
  • People leadership experience, including hiring, developing, and directing marketing staff and agency partners.
  • Proven cross-functional collaboration and the ability to influence without direct authority across business units and senior leadership.
  • Willingness to remain hands-on; this role produces work directly as well as directing it.
  • Experience in manufacturing preferred. Electrical infrastructure, power generation, energy, utilities, data centers, or related industries required.
