Job Description

This Electrical Design Engineer is expected to collaborate effectively at all levels with key stakeholders in the development of quality engineering drawings to meet client and regulatory requirements. The incumbent is expected to have experience in design using engineering standards. The individual is expected to guide and review the work of outsourced electrical design team. He should be able to handle multiple projects independently. He should be able to understand client requirements and initiate design kick off meetings to clarify all discrepancies before carrying out design. He will be responsible for creating electrical design packages and/or utilize outsourced electrical design team, selecting components, preparing detailed schematics. He will also standardize databases, symbols and catalogs libraries for efficient and intelligent CAD. He will be collaborating with mechanical designers, production and quality to ensure design intent is carried through to production per ISO processes.  He will provide support to cross-functional teams related to design issues. He should have worked in a intelligent CAD software.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Create designs specific to low voltage and medium voltage switchgear assemblies/systems per industry standards.
  • Create and /Supervise the work of outsourced electrical design team to develop electrical schematics, panel layout, and wiring diagrams that meet customer, manufacturing, regulatory, and project requirements. Interact with mechanical designers to ensure design is aligned with their needs.
  • Initiate design kick off meetings  with project/sales/ application engineering to clarify all discrepancies before carrying out design.
  • Support production with nameplates, wirelabels and layouts.
  • Follow and develop standard design processes and documentation to improve quality and efficiency in engineering design.
  • Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and revise existing designs to improve manufacturability, cost, or performance.
  • Support project management, manufacturing and field service groups on design related issues for smooth project flow.
  • Standardise parts databases and electrical and layout symbols library.
  • Create record / as built drawings based on production -testing markups.
  • Maintain proper version control and documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design Technology, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in electrical drafting or design, preferably in switchgear or related industry.
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or an intelligent CAD software.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or Inventor.
  • Hands-on experience in panel building and wiring.
  • Experience in the design of LV electrical switchgear- UL891, UL1558
  • Experience in the design of MV metal clad/ metal enclosed Switchgear IEEE C37.20.2/3
  • Familiarity with Schneider Electric Power Pact, MTZ, MV breakers is a plus
  • Satisfactory completion of additional background screening.

Work Environment and Physical demands                           

  • Must be able to communicate effectively using phones or computer software.  
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the assigned facilities.  
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.  
  • Must be able to travel between locations, some travel could require overnight stays.
