Job Description

The Structural Designer transforms complex client structural specifications into precise, production-ready fabrication drawings for modular industrial buildings. This position operates within an embedded project cell, providing dedicated drafting, 3D modeling, and engineering support directly to an assigned Project Manager. The Structural Designer is accountable for the structural integrity, physical layout, and building envelope design of custom modular PDC buildings. Reporting directly to their assigned Project Manager for project deliverables, this role transforms client structural specifications into precise, production-ready fabrication drawings.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

The following list of responsibilities is not all inclusive, additional projects and/or tasks may be assigned to meet operational needs. MCG retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position should operational needs warrant.

  • 3D Structural Modeling: Generate detailed 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings of structural steel bases, interlocking wall panels, and roofing systems using CAD/Revit software.
  • Physical Layout Integration: Design building penetrations and mounting structures for heavy industrial HVAC systems, specialized entry doors, and wall bulkhead plates.
  • Rigging & Weight Calculations: Calculate total estimated building shipping weights and precise structural centers of gravity (CG) to ensure safe lifting, rigging, and over-the-road transport.
  • Production Support: Provide rapid structural drafting adjustments and technical clarification to the fabrication floor supervisors to eliminate assembly errors.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge/Experience:

  • Associate degree or higher in CAD/Drafting, Structural Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in structural steel detailing or architectural sheet metal modeling using 2D and 3D design platforms.
  • Ability to calculate geometric tolerances, physical weights, and foundational structural configurations.

Preferred Experience

  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks tailored to structural fabrications.
  • Familiarity with modular building codes, structural wind/seismic regulations, and heavy lifting rigging designs.

Success Measures

  • Dimensional accuracy of released fabrication drawings, resulting in minimal shop floor rework.
  • Timely completion of engineering submittal packages against project cell schedule baselines.
  • Effective collaboration and responsiveness within the assigned project matrix cell.
