Job Description

The Field Production Technician will support all Service Department functions, including preventive maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting. Experience in electrical wiring and mechanical bus installation is preferred. This position will require frequent travel for installation and service deployments.

Responsibilities:

The following responsibilities are not intended to be all-inclusive. Additional projects and tasks may be assigned as needed to support operational requirements. MCG reserves the right to modify or assign additional duties to this position based on operational needs.

  • Perform equipment startup, commissioning, and site acceptance testing (SAT) at customer locations.
  • Assist with troubleshooting electrical and control system failures in the field and provide corrective action recommendations.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and complete required service reports accurately and timely.
  • Verify wiring accuracy, torque specifications, and component labeling prior to energization.
  • Support inventory tracking and organization of field tools, parts, and consumables.
  • Interpret one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings to support installations and repairs.
  • Assist in preparing equipment for shipment, deployment, and field mobilization.
  • Participate in emergency service response and outage support as required.
  • Maintain calibration and proper care of testing equipment and tools.
  • Document field modifications and communicate redline changes to engineering or project management teams.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Assemble control panels and equipment of varying size and complexity to meet client and product specifications.
  • Perform pre-test quality control as well as final system testing.
  • Take direction from FS Management and Field Service Technical Leads.
  • Follow training instructions provided by FS Management and Field Service Technical Leads.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Communicate professionally with customers, subcontractors, and internal teams during field deployments.
  • Provide status updates to project managers and service leadership regarding installation progress, delays, or technical issues.
  • Represent the company professionally at customer sites and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Escalate unresolved technical or safety concerns to management promptly.

Safety & Compliance Enhancements

  • Participate in pre-task planning activities before beginning work.
  • Report near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and customer-specific safety standards.
  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge/Experience

  • 1-2 years working with ATS, control panels, switchgear, or similar power equipment, Required.
  • TWIC Card, Required or the ability to obtain one.
  • Industry Background: Power generation, utilities, oil & gas, marine, or energy sectors
  • Electrical Skills: Solid hands-on experience with electrical wiring and/or electrical buss work.
  • Tools: Proficient with multimeters, hand tools, and wiring equipment.
  • Software: Comfortable with Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting
  • Driver's License: Valid license with clean driving record (required for travel), Required.

Preferred

  • Technical diploma in Industrial Electrical, Maintenance, or related field
  • EGSA Certification
  • PLC programming experience (Allen-Bradley, GE, ABB, Schneider, etc.)
  • Relay programming experience (Basler, GE Multilin, Sepam, Woodward)
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (Modbus & Ethernet)
  • Experience with GE, Siemens, or Woodward devices

Education

  • High school diploma or GED, Required.
