Job Description
The Summer Intern will support the sales support team within a switchgear manufacturing environment, gaining exposure to estimating, proposal development, and customer coordination. This role is designed as a structured learning experience with hands-on participation in real business activities.
Accountabilities
- Shadow sales support team members across estimating, proposals, and customer coordination
- Assist in reviewing customer RFQs and summarizing key requirements
- Support development of proposal documents and quotation packages
- Help compile basic cost breakdowns and project information
- Participate in internal coordination with engineering, operations, and sales
- Attend internal meetings to understand project flow and decision-making
- Complete a defined summer project focused on improving or evaluating a sales support function
- Present project findings and recommendations at the end of the internship
Learning Objectives
- Understand the full lifecycle from customer inquiry to proposal submission
- Gain exposure to MV/LV switchgear products and applications
- Develop foundational knowledge of estimating, pricing, and risk considerations
- Build business communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Qualifications
Required Knowledge/Experience:
- Strong interest in manufacturing, electrical equipment, or industrial sales
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint preferred
Education
- Rising senior pursuing a degree in Business, Engineering, or related field

Work Environment and Physical Demands
- FLSA non-exempt positions paid on an hourly basis, where project requirements and tight client deadlines may require workweeks over forty (40) hours (including weekends or holidays)
- This role will work in an office setting; however, frequent visits to the production floor are required to oversee operations, ensure compliance and safety standards, and engage staff.
- Mobility: Ability to move around the manufacturing plant, including walking, standing, and climbing stairs.
- Manual Dexterity: Occasional use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Lifting: Ability to lift and carry items up to twenty-five (25) pounds. All lifting should be done following OSHA standards.
- Visual and Auditory Requirements: Must be able to see and hear well enough to navigate the plant safely and communicate effectively with team members.
