Job Description
The Plant Manager is responsible for leading daily manufacturing operations at the facility, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable execution of production activities. This role is accountable for plant performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost while developing a strong culture of operational discipline and continuous improvement. The Plant Manager partners closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Operational Excellence to ensure production commitments are met and operational processes are executed effectively. This role provides leadership to production and support teams and ensures alignment with company objectives and The MCG Way.
Plant Operations Leadership
- Lead daily manufacturing operations including fabrication, assembly, logistics, maintenance,
- and production support functions.
- Ensure safe and efficient plant operations aligned with company standards and regulatory
- requirements.
- Provide clear direction and leadership to supervisors and production teams to achieve
- operational goals.
- Ensure production schedules are executed to meet customer delivery commitments.
Safety and Compliance
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational standards.
- Partner with Safety leadership to support training, audits, and incident investigations.
- Promote safe work practices and accountability at all levels of the organization.
Operational Performance
- Own plant-level performance in safety, quality, delivery, and P&L for the plant
- Work with sales team on securing projects in support of the P&L
- Monitor and respond to key performance indicators including on-time delivery, productivity, safety performance, and quality metrics.
- Identify and address operational issues to maintain stable and predictable performance.
- Support capacity planning and resource allocation to meet production requirements. Create business case for plant investments
Continuous Improvement
- Support deployment of The MCG Way and its tools within the facility.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
- Participate in kaizen events and structured problem-solving initiatives.
- Promote process discipline, standard work, and daily accountability.
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop supervisors and plant leadership team members, fostering a positive and people-centered work environment.
- Establish clear expectations and accountability while supporting the growth and development of employees at all levels of the organization.
- Foster a collaborative and highly engaged workforce where employees feel valued, supported, and connected to plant goals and performance.
- Partner with Human Resources to recruit, develop, engage, and retain a high-performing workforce.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with EECOE support functions to drive operational performance.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain to ensure material availability and production flow.
- Partner with Quality to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction.
- Support Operational Excellence initiatives and improvement efforts.
Supervisory Requirements
- Provides leadership and direction to production supervisors and plant support personnel.
- Responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management, and development of plant employees.
- Establishes clear priorities, expectations, and accountability for plant teams.
- Develops supervisors and team leaders to strengthen leadership capability and support future
- growth.
- Fosters a safe, collaborative, and engaged work environment that supports employee
- development and retention.
- Partners with Human Resources on recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and retention
- initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive manufacturing experience with increasing leadership responsibilities.
- Experience leading production teams in a manufacturing environment and managing plant performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Demonstrated ability to lead supervisors and develop high-performing teams.
- Experience with production planning, resource allocation, and daily operational execution.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles preferred.
- Experience in fabrication, assembly, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop supervisors and production teams.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both frontline employees and leadership.
- Ability to make sound operational decisions and respond effectively to daily production challenges.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across functions including Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Operational Excellence.
- Ability to drive accountability and maintain operational discipline across plant teams.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- FLSA executive and professional positions paid on a salary basis, where project requirements and tight client deadlines may require workweeks over forty (40) hours (including weekends or holidays)
- This role will work in an office setting, however, frequent visits to the production floor are required to oversee operations, ensure compliance and safety standards, and engage staff.
- Mobility: Ability to move around the manufacturing plant, including walking, standing, and climbing stairs.
- Manual Dexterity: Occasional use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, orcontrols.
- Lifting: Ability to lift and carry items up to twenty-five (25) pounds. All lifting should bedone following OSHA standards.
- Visual and Auditory Requirements: Must be able to see and hear well enough to navigate the plant safely and communicate effectively with team members.
