Job Description
We are seeking an exceptional Open Source Project & Community Manager (Kubernetes Focus) to join our Open Source Program Office (OSPO) team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing internal open source development teams, fostering relationships with external open source communities, and driving strategic initiatives around Kubernetes and related technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Project Management: Lead and coordinate internal open source development teams, ensuring alignment with company goals and open source community standards.
- Community Engagement: Manage the interaction between internal teams and external open source communities, fostering collaboration and contribution.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategies for effective participation in open source projects and communities, with a focus on Kubernetes and related technologies.
- Community Management: Directly manage smaller strategic open source communities, nurturing growth and fostering a positive environment.
- Metrics and Reporting: Track and report on key performance indicators related to open source engagement and project progress.
- Conflict Resolution: Mediate and resolve conflicts between internal teams and external community members when necessary.
- Outreach: Represent the company at open source events, conferences, and online forums to build relationships and promote the company’s open source initiatives.
- Compliance: Ensure all open source contributions and usage comply with relevant licenses and company policies.
- Strategy Development: Work with the OSPO leadership to develop per community/project strategies.
- Relationship Building: Develop relationships within these communities/projects to help us succeed in our strategic goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Management, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in project management, preferably in software development or open source environments.
- Proven experience in open source community engagement and management.
- Strong understanding of open source development processes and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse groups of stakeholders.
- Proficiency with project management tools and version control systems like Git.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams in a distributed work environment.
- Passion for open source and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, fluid environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Strong understanding of open source best practices, including code quality, testing, and documentation
- Passion to thrive in a fast-paced, fluid environment.
Highly Desirable:
- Experience with agile methodologies and their application in open source contexts.
- Familiarity with cloud-native technologies, Kubernetes, and open source infrastructure.
- Knowledge of open source licensing and compliance issues.
- Experience in organizing and running open source events or hackathons.
- Contributions to notable open source projects or communities.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
