Job Description

Oaks Auckland Hotel are looking for a passionate and motivated Commis Chef to join our dynamic Kitchen team on a part-time basis.

If you have a love for cooking, a drive to learn, and a commitment to delivering high-quality dishes, we’d love to welcome you to our team. This role includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner shifts with flexibility required across all seven days, including weekends and public holidays.

As a valued team member, you’ll play a key role in supporting our culinary operations by:

  • Food Preparation: Assisting with the preparation and presentation of high-quality dishes across all sections of the kitchen.
  • Team Support: Working collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure efficient service and smooth operations during busy periods.
  • Kitchen Standards: Maintaining cleanliness, organisation, and compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Learning and Development: Taking initiative to develop your culinary skills and grow within a supportive and professional kitchen environment.

Shift Details (subject to change):

  • Breakfast and Dinner shifts
  • Split shifts required on some day 
  • Part-time position with a minimum 20 hours per week

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Hold a relevant cookery qualification (or international equivalent) and have previous experience in a similar role.
  • Have a strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations.
  • Be flexible to work a range of different shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Work well under pressure within a fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen environment.
  • Be able to coach and support less experienced members of the kitchen team.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work independently when required.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
