Job Description

 

  • Follow all procedures for maintaining the overall operation of the workshop, including weekly and monthly vehicle inspections, and other maintenance and repair of all equipment, vehicles, and assets.
  • Weekly vehicle inspections include oil, water, grease nipples, pipe and engine leaks, tyre pressure, clean engine, spare wheels, spanners, and high lift jacks.
  • Monthly vehicle inspections include suspensions, exhaust systems, universal joints, electrical systems, and vehicle furnishings.
  • Assume full responsibility for the cleanliness of the workshop and the workshop storerooms.
  • Assume full responsibility for the control and safekeeping of all parts in the workshop, storeroom, and used in vehicles, maintain the workshop inventory, perform stock takes and report to the Head Guide on a regular basis.
  • Check Generator daily (water, oil, and Diesel)
  • Fill up daily and record on diesel issue sheet.
  • Be available for all back-up and stand-by duties as directed and assist with any vehicle emergencies (guest and company vehicles) as required.
  • Assist with incident handling in the event of emergency/ evacuation, including medical emergencies, fire, and flood.
  • Assist with field work when required
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all vehicles and equipment to minimise breakdowns and extend their lifespan.
  • Train and supervise junior mechanics, ensuring they adhere to safety protocols and maintain high-quality work standards.
  • Liaise with suppliers to source parts and negotiate prices, ensuring cost-effective procurement of materials and tools.
  • Maintain accurate records of all repairs, maintenance activities, and parts usage for auditing and budgeting purposes.
  • Stay updated with the latest automotive technologies and repair techniques, attending training sessions as necessary to enhance skills and knowledge.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Hold a Motor Mechanic qualification with trade testing in diesel and petrol mechanics.
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a diesel and petrol mechanic, including 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Hold a valid driver's licence and demonstrate proficiency in diagnosing and repairing various vehicle systems.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and environmental compliance in automotive workshops.
  • Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and team management skills.
  • Proficient in using computerised diagnostic equipment and implementing preventive maintenance plans.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Physically fit and able to work under pressure in various environmental conditions.
  • Demonstrate tolerance, patience, and care in interactions with team members and clients.
