Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Pastry Commis Chef for a fixed-term contract position in our bustling kitchen located in Gaborone, Botswana. As a Pastry Commis Chef, you will work collaboratively with our pastry team to create delectable desserts and baked goods that delight our customers.

  • Assist the Pastry Chef in preparing a wide variety of pastries, desserts, and baked goods
  • Follow recipes and instructions precisely to ensure consistency in quality and presentation
  • Measure and weigh ingredients accurately for pastry production
  • Maintain a clean and organized work station, adhering to food safety and hygiene standards
  • Assist in the proper storage and labeling of pastry ingredients and finished products
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of pastry items
  • Learn and apply new pastry techniques and recipes under the guidance of senior chefs
  • Participate in inventory management and stock rotation for the pastry section
  • Contribute creative ideas for new dessert menu items
  • Assist in the plating and presentation of pastry dishes

Qualifications

  • Culinary school diploma or certificate in pastry arts preferred
  • Food safety certification required
  • Proficiency in various pastry preparation techniques and baking skills
  • Strong knowledge of pastry ingredients, equipment, and their uses
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
  • Basic math skills for precise ingredient measurements
  • Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Team player with strong collaborative skills
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Passion for pastry arts and willingness to learn new techniques
  • Prior experience in a professional kitchen is a plus
