Avani Fares is the first AVANI branded resort in Maldives. With 200 keys and multiple F&B outlets as well as Spa & Recreation facilities we are looking for a strong Director of Engineering with previous pre-opening experience to join our team. This position reports directly to the General Manager of the hotel.

Our Director of Engineering is responsible for maintaining all equipment, systems and building components of the hotel, including, but not limited to, mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, paint, wall coverings, tile and other equipment/work normally maintained/performed by hotel Maintenance Engineers. Additional responsibilities include management and decision-making authority for the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department.  And all this - after we have successfully built and opened the resort. You will work closely with the construction company and our General Manager in making sure that the resort and all its facilities are built to the required standards and agreed requirements. Previous pre-opening experience and working on a remote or island location is something a successful candidate needs to have. We look for you for guidance on everything engineering related during the pre- and post-opening phases so strong leadership skills, expertise in hotel engineering, communication skills, ability to manage and influence multiple stakeholders are some of the attributes that we hope you have already mastered. In addition, safeguarding the beautiful ecosystem at Baa Atoll is super important to us and you will lead our green committee as well in your role as Director of Engineering.

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction, project management or similar is a merit
• 7+ years’ experience in Engineering Department Management and strong technical skills in various aspects of engineering
• Very results orientated, understanding of project execution is critical skill in this role
• Previous pre-opening experience, ideally within a remote or island location
• Track record in coaching and training others, experience in managing a large team as a department head is needed
• Ability to effectively manage and negotiate third party and vendor contracts and teams
• Strong English language communication skills, both written and spoken needed. Any additional languages are a bonus. 
• Great computer skills & positive problem solver with focus on sustainable results.
