Job Description
Reporting to the Maintenance Engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring efficient and cost-effective maintenance, operation of all electrical and mechanical equipment as well as all electrical systems at Avani Lesotho and Avani Maseru. To ensure constant upkeep and development of both units, as well as developing and implementing the maintenance plans.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Overseeing and managing of all contractors related to the maintenance of Avani Lesotho and Avani Maseru
Formulates daily maintenance system and ensures that adequate preventative maintenance is in place
Set up and hold an adequate information system, incorporating the drawing registers, specifications, guarantees and maintenance manuals
Ensures budgets planning and control for the Maintenance Department
Controls and monitors all staff with regards to work allocation & training
Plan, control, and manage all maintenance functions
Up Keep of Generator Sets and maintenance thereof
To comply with all statutory and legal requirements for fire, health and safety licensing and provide all necessary safety equipment required for work to be carried out efficiently and safely.
Plan and manage all preventative maintenance work, new projects, extensions, and renovations.
Continually monitor the responsible use of energy in the hotel, and implement measures resulting in energy cost savings.
Monthly reports and meetings
To prepare the Engineering budget for the property and provide the Engineering input into hotel strategic and operational planning exercises.
Liaise with HR over all employee matters including recruitment and interviewing.
Control all payroll and business expenditure of the department.
Provide in-house mechanical and electrical servicing, repair and maintenance using well-trained, presentable personnel carrying out maintenance works in an efficient, discreet and guest friendly manner.
Carry out continuous inspections to ensure the highest level of guest comfort is maintained and that all services are in proper working condition.
Ensure that all maintenance requests are prioritised and are dealt with in an efficient manner.
Develop a team of technically proficient and generally helpful technicians to carry out all maintenance and repair work to standard with technical specifications.
Acts as a Project Manager between hotel and outside contractors or technical services on major projects.
Attends seminars and technical exhibitions and reads relevant publications to keep him up to date in the Engineering field
Qualifications
Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Completed a recognised apprenticeship in a trade such as an electrical or a commercial refrigeration and/or air conditioning field
Minimum of 6 years post apprenticeship training in a relevant field
Computer literacy – Microsoft package
Proven experience in a managerial position for a period of no less than five years
Strong technical background with experience in most aspects of the maintenance
Proven track record in terms of leadership ability
Must be able to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks at once and be hands-on in operations
Must speak fluent English
He/she ideally should be certified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
Must have not less than five years operating experience in a hotel engineering department.
Must be familiar with the operations and priorities of all other hotel operating departments.
