Specimen Processing Specialist
Client Laboratories, a Client Specialty Testing Group, located in St. Paul, MN operates a SAMHSA-certified drug testing laboratory and CAP and CLIA-certified clinical laboratory. Our comprehensive laboratory and testing services coupled with our commitment to excellent customer service ensures that our clients' testing programs operate as efficiently and effectively as possible. Responsibilities
- Receive and check in samples as they are delivered to the laboratory
- Identify discrepancies, validity, stabilities
- Sort and code according to department guidelines
- Entry patient demographics utilizing multiple data base systems
- Prepare laboratory specimens (blood, urine, stool, sputum, body fluids, etc.) for various technical areas prior to laboratory analysis
- Accurately label, centrifuge, aliquot, and document samples and sample types
- Sorting, racking and delivering samples
- Processing 40-70 samples per hour
- Storing, retrieving, and disposing of samples during testing process and post retention
- Maintain a clean, well-stocked, organized work area
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures including safety and quality standards
Required Skills and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; prefer some post-high school education
- Accurate and efficient alpha numeric type skill by touch
- Ability to work with accuracy and speed while paying close attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Able to handle stressful situations caused by high volume and deadlines
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Prolonged standing may be required
- Must be able to adjust schedule to meet business unit requirements, which may include extended hours.
- Must have the mental alertness and high energy required to appropriately perform job
- Work effectively in fast paced environment with multiple priorities
Preferred education, skills
- Specimen processing experience
- Medical Assistance/Phlebotomy skills and comfort handling all types of samples
- Strong memorization skills
- Experience working with Laboratory Information Systems
- Able to decipher relevance of information on requisitions
- Have an understanding of HIPAA regulations and Universal Precautions when dealing with patient samples
