Job Description

The Role:  The Data Engineering Practice, part of MicroStrategy Professional Services, consists of a team of experienced professionals that give structure to the way the company approaches services opportunities regarding the integration of a variety of databases and big data platforms with MicroStrategy. This team oversees estimating, scoping, managing, and delivering Database engagements. It also provides advisory services and technical oversight and provides feedback to designs approaches and effort estimations. MicroStrategy Principal Consultants empower customers to make more informed decisions by providing timely, relevant, and accurate answers to their business questions. To achieve this mission, Principal Consultants work to understand business needs and technical requirements, and design and implement high-value solutions in the MicroStrategy platform and in the Database/Big Data domain. MicroStrategy Principal Consultants are an integral part of the world's largest staff of MicroStrategy Certified Engineers and leverage knowledge and best practices across our global team for customer success. MicroStrategy Professional Services' Career Path provides growth opportunities at all levels within the organization. 

Your Focus: 

  • Delivers billable consulting services. Efforts may be directed toward various MicroStrategy and/or supporting products and services.
  • Works within a global sphere of influence internally. Works cross-departmentally in support of priority, strategic initiatives, and/or the development of new Services offerings.
  • Ensures a solid understanding of business objectives associated with projects and/or programs to which they are assigned.
  • Maintains a deep understanding of the competitive landscape.
  • Defines a project approach to ensure customer and MicroStrategy account success. Provides critical and constructive guidance to customers, steering them towards a long-term vision for success.
  • Solves business problems at a strategic level leveraging experience, best practices, and methods of abstraction (business/technology concepts and models).
  • Facilitates solutions/offerings workshops. May actively define a methodology for specific solutions/offerings.
  • Provides content and support to the MicroStrategy account team, helping to scope and estimate the engagement as well as shape the solution concept.
  • Leads large, strategic customer and partner engagements. May also assume selected engagement management responsibilities.
  • Proactively monitors the business, industry, and world news and trends and anticipates the impact to MicroStrategy and our customers. Applies this knowledge wherever appropriate in customer and internal planning/development activities.
  • Able to command the attention of a room with world-class communication skills, presentation skills, facilitation skills, and executive presence.
  • Demonstrates a strong presence and ability to influence internal and customer C-level executives.
  • Confident in communicating and influencing customers in challenging and difficult situations.
  • Performs speaking engagements at industry conferences and customer-hosted events. Contributes to best practices within their relevant external communities.
  • Demonstrates well-developed situational awareness. Learns and practices key principles of organizational agility.
  • Demonstrates thought leadership and state-of-the-art knowledge.
  • Builds and expands in-depth knowledge and application experience with the MicroStrategy platform.
  • Conversant in customer analytical architecture.

  • Liaisons with product and support to drive product improvements.
  • Provides sales support by using in-depth technical background to assist the team with crafting thorough proposals and accurate estimates for customer-facing opportunities.
  • Engages in building the next generation of leaders within our company and mentors junior team members.
  • May be called upon to deliver classroom training for internal audiences.
  • Contributes to the company mindshare by harvesting field best practices and writing white papers. Actively participates in internal knowledge-sharing forums.
  • Supports business processes and procedures per management guidance.

Qualifications

Required Experience and Skills:  

 Motivation, Innovation, Passion, Integrity, Teamwork, Customer-Focus.   

You should also bring the following: 

  • Bachelors or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field 
  • 10 + years of industry, technology, and services experience, often with additional industry-recognized certifications and/or publications in their area of expertise 
  • Significant experience designing and implementing enterprise-wide systems, previous experience with MicroStrategy customers, and large-scale deployments of MicroStrategy is preferred 
  • In-depth knowledge and expertise in a technology-related specialty with a proven application for customer success
  • Experience successfully leading and delivering multiple project engagements
  • Sensitivity to political and interpersonal dynamics
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as in a team environment
  • Proven knowledge of programming and scripting 
  • Experience in SQL, Stored Procedures, Java, Python, Unix Scripting, etc. 
  • Experience in at least one or more databases/platforms including Snowflake, Google Big Query, Hadoop, Redshift, Elastic Search, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Teradata, Databricks, Firebolt, etc. 
  • Experience in ETL tools such as Informatica, Talend, Matillion, etc. 
  • Expertise in Cloud including Azure Data warehouse, Data Catalog, Data factory, Data Lake, Azure Storage, Snowflakes, Cloud migration, AWS Architect, EC2, AWS RedShift  
  • Experience in Data Warehouse Design and Implementation 
  • Hands-on experience with the MicroStrategy Schema Design and Development
