Job Description

The Role:

The Manager, Business Development is responsible for the day to day operation, management, and lead generation of a Business Development team of up to 6 - 8 Business Development Representatives.

Your Focus:

Strategic

  • Manage and develop a team of up to 6 - 8 Business Development Representatives (BDRs) delivering on objective of conducting Strategic Business Development (which could be Inbound or Outbound) to new targets within both prospect and existing accounts, with the objective of introducing/positioning MicroStrategy’s products and services to key decision-makers to create marketing qualified leads for the sales force. This will often, but not always, be associated with setting up an initial meeting between the prospect and the assigned Account Executive.
  • Work with both Marketing and Sales leadership teams in order to implement strategy for penetrating new prospect accounts
  • Work with Marketing team to identify the most successful marketing programs based on business development and sales results
  • Work with Marketing and Sales leadership to prioritize calling campaigns consistent with value to the business and to balance effectively among multiple business priorities

Operational/Managerial

  • Work with HR in order to develop hiring procedures, develop and manage compensation systems, create and implement retention and career development programs, and handle HR related issues
  • Recruit, manage and coach a team of Business Development Representatives
  • Manage training curriculum for team such that staff become knowledgeable in all MicroStrategy products and services such that they are able to effectively and persuasively target MicroStrategy’s value proposition to specified pain points for the right buyer profile and to communicate our products’ differentiation in a clear and compelling way that drives interest and results in marketing qualified leads/initial meetings
  • Manage capacity of business development resources for optimal and efficient use
  • Work with Director, Business Development to strategically deploy outsourced capacity to optimize business development efforts
  • Analyze individual Business Development Representative performance on a quarterly basis through the review system
  • Assist Director in working with the multiple constituents to develop new functionality within our sales force automation tool in order to improve business development effectiveness and efficiency
  • Work with the Marketing Operations team in order to develop/improve measurement/reporting for Business Development activities

Communication

  • Act as a communication link between Business Development and the field, regularly interacting with Sales Directors/Account Executives to ensure coordination, cooperation, and effective handoffs between Business Development and Sales. Ensure overall alignment with Sales staff around common goals and objectives.
  • Educate the field sales force on the Business Development team roles, responsibilities and interaction model

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 2+ year business development/lead follow-up experience required
  • Sales and Marketing expertise in the enterprise software industry preferred
  • Proven Leadership abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, business requirements
  • Demonstrated Creative Problem solving abilities
