Assistant Manager The Merchant

Job Description

Nestled between Clapham Junction and the tranquillity of the Common, we are a friendly local for a wide and varied community and that’s the way we like it. We have a no nonsense view of our menu. Good hearty, simple fayre made using the best ingredients by a passionate team. Juicy burgers and steaks, hearty pies and gooey wings and nachos. Proper comfort food done properly.

You'll work with the general manager to run the pub, hire, train and develop the team, plan events and take charge of everything when the general manager's away. You've already worked as an assistant manager in a busy pub for at least a year, and we're keen to know what you've learnt.
But it's more than that.

Here at Metro Pub Company, our mission is simple - we want this to be the best place you've ever worked. Our bars are at the forefront of that mission; delivering amazing environments our guests don't want to leave.

We're much more interested in who you are and what you're really like. What are you like to work with? How do you rally a team? Are you calm when things don't go to plan? What makes you laugh? We want to get to know you and your way of doing things. And find out how you can bring them to Grove (KT6 4BX).

What's in it for you?

- A salary up there with the best of the rest (with bonus on top).
- The chance to move on to managing your own pub.
- Discount at the pub and our sister pubs.
- The chance to run and develop a business.
- Parties and events with other management teams.
- Top-class management leadership programme.

Sounds good – but who are we?

We’re Metropolitan Pub Company (or Metro Pub Co for short). You’ve probably never heard of us as a collective but that’s the way we like it! Our pubs are unique and individual and we wouldn’t want them to feel any other way. We’re massive advocates of local pubs being just that, local, with their own character and charm. We were acquired by Greene King in 2011 and have continued to flourish under their umbrella. We have around 65 “urban locals” where we are proud to create warm and friendly places our guests don’t want to leave and teams who feel exactly the same.

Fancy joining us?

Here’s what you need:
- A National Insurance Number and bank account
- Good written and spoken English
- The right to work in the UK.
