Job Description

The Application Virtualization Engineer is a Tier 3 software engineer, responsible for the virtualization, sequencing and troubleshooting of all application packages within the Enterprise and used App-V 5, SCCM, App Volumes and FlexApp. The successful candidate will research, design, develop and/or modify enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software.

DUTIES

  • Designs and codes software components, units, and modules that meet product specifications and development schedules
  • Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis
  • Tests and debugs assigned components and units
  • Participates in large system and subsystem planning
  • Collaborates with hardware engineers, on machine characteristics that affect software systems, and works with them to resolve incompatibilities
  • Writes and updates technical documentation, such as user manuals, system documentation, and training materials
  • Troubleshoots problems and provides customer support for software operating systems and application issues
  • Advises hardware engineers on machine characteristics that affect software systems, such as storage capacity, processing speed, and input/output requirements
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned and participates in special projects as required
  • Creates, edits, upgrades, and customizes App-V packaged sequences
  • Distributes App-V packages directly, through the use of the App-V clients and corresponding SCCM mechanisms
  • Assists in supporting the agency's standard desktop hardware and software configuration
  • Works closely with the technical support team, in resolving various issues/problems with the inventory/packaged sequence distribution process
  • Develops procedures and documentation for the inventory/packaged sequence distribution process
  • Evaluates new versions of AppV and related software, for stability, reliability, performance and compatibility with the agency's existing environment
  • Prepares reports on analyses, findings, and project progress

Qualifications

  • Government clearance required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience
  • 5-8 years of related software development experience
  • 5-8 years of directly related experience supporting Microsoft App-V, Microsoft SCCM, Citrix XenApp or VMware AppVolumes
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills and strong writing skills
  • Ability to follow a process and help to identify areas for process improvement
  • Experience using Windows 7 or Windows 10
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (basic understanding)
  • Experience creating, editing, upgrading and customizing existing App-V packaged sequences
  • Experience packaging and deploying applications via SCCM, through the creation of package sequences in Microsoft App-V
  • Experience with App-V server installation, configuration, and maintenance
  • Experience scripting with a scripting language (preferably PowerShell)
  • Experience with any other industry application virtualization software (Citrix XenApp, VMware ThinApp or AppVolumes)
  • Security +, MCSA: Windows Server 2012 or equivalent work experience preferred
