Job Description

The Principal Video Engineer is responsible for the design and development of video, voice and/or data communications networks. Will work with Unified Comms Engineering resources, to ensure the proper delivery of functional systems and additionally assist in troubleshooting Unified Communications voice/video system clusters and endpoints. The candidate will quickly respond to customer issues, regarding application/hardware related issues and resolve on-the-spot problems. Candidates must be able to replicate issues for internal analysis/diagnosis, and prepare/proofread technical documentation accurately depicting the problem and/or solution for feedback to developer/vendor and program.

DUTIES

  • Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing computer systems
  • Performs complex systems development and design work, that may include logic design, I/O design, firmware development, model formulation, manufacturing and development cost projections, computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering
  • Performs systems modeling, simulation and analysis
  • Reviews the completion and implementation of system additions and/or enhancements, and makes recommendations to management and/or clients
  • Plans and directs upgrades of operating systems and designs system enhancements
  • Develops documentation on new or existing systems
  • Develops and directs tests, to ensure that systems meet documented user requirements
  • Identifies, analyzes and resolves system problems
  • Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance
  • Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility
  • Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced systems engineers and may have supervisory responsibilities
  • Serves as a liaison to clients, participating in meetings to ensure that client needs were met
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned and participates in special projects as required
  • Analyzes voice, video and/or data communications networks, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, and upgrading systems and protocol suites
  • Designs, develops and executes Cisco IP video technologies, including Cisco DX series, Cisco EX series and Cisco MX Series
  • Designs, develops and executes desktop video endpoints, IP Television solutions and VCS, TMS and Gateway configurations
  • Designs, develops and executes Cisco Unified Communications Call Manager (CUCM) version 10.5, H.323 and SIP trunk configuration, MSE 8000 Virtual Telepresence Server 8710 media blades and MXP1700 Telepresence Systems
  • Plans system updates and schedules outages
  • Configures system and user environments
  • Provides direction in the development of continued technologies, ECPs and tasking related to Unified Communications and other User Facing Services
  • Identifies, analyzes and resolves system problems
  • Performs network and system administration duties

Qualifications

  • Government clearance required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience
  • 8-10 years of related systems engineering experience
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in Unified Communications and system design
  • Advanced Knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications operating systems, Cisco Video solutions, VCS, TMS and Virtual Telepresence Server
  • Knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications systems conferencing solutions, understanding of licensing agreements and video technologies
  • May require professional certification in one or more specific technologies, depending on job assignment
