Job Description

The Local Courier serves as a member of a two-person team that is responsible for controlling, transporting, tracking and distributing both incoming and outgoing documents, equipment and other materials to various organizations within the Washington metropolitan area, as well as to domestic and overseas locations. Positions work under close supervision upon entry, then after the first year, independently, with minimal supervision. Some senior team members mentor and train employees as they enter into the occupation and are responsible for developing the courier schedule.

Positions receive specialized training and skills necessary to protect cover, make decisions independently, effectively deal with representatives from commercial airports and military installations, and interact with a broad customer base. Work requires travel either domestically or overseas. Other work includes light physical requirements, such as lifting and the operation of mechanical equipment and motor vehicles, depending on assignment.

Duties

  • Uses packaging equipment and office equipment
  • Uses a standard suite of office software, including notes, Word and Excel
  • Ensures the safe and secure transport of documents/materials, to various organizations within the Washington metropolitan area, as well as other domestic and overseas locations
  • Coordinates deliveries with customers and addressees, receiving last minute instructions and/or any updates
  • Prior to departure, reviews security and issues unique to each destination/delivery
  • Inputs information and processes accounting into various databases, which account for deliveries and travel expenses
  • Processes data into the Agency logistics systems
  • Inputs data into databases, to schedule trip itineraries and process accounting
  • Prepares travel and incident reports as needed

Qualifications

  • Government clearance required
  • Maintain a driving record consistent with Agency standards. TDY qualified
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain knowledge of Agency regulations, policies and unique Agency authorities
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy, maturity and good judgment when handling cover issues and interacting with partners.
  • Ability to become familiar with Agency regulations and policies and the guidance provided in FAA Circular 108.3, commercial airport security regulations
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with military and commercial protocols
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated by developing working relationships and networks with employees, staff and colleagues
  • Excellent customer service skills, demonstrated by anticipating and responding to customers’ needs in a manner that generates customer satisfaction
  • Considerable knowledge of security practices
  • Ability to use Agency databases
  • Advanced ability to demonstrate versatility, handle multiple tasks and adapt to unforeseen delays, problems and diversions, during the execution of duties
  • Ability to train, lead and develop employees, if required
