Job Description

The Principal Network Engineer designs and develops voice, video, radio-frequency and/or data communications networks and provides expert level analysis of voice, video, radio-frequency, and/or data communications networks, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting and upgrading operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges and other devices. The successful candidate will plan network layouts and configure systems to user environments.

DUTIES

  • Works on Tier 2/Tier 3 network-related Remedy tickets
  • Works with internal and external customers to fill information gaps and communicate architecture and technical solutions
  • Assists in the development of the Network Transport Architecture
  • Develops detailed logical designs in areas of Gigabit Ethernet Switching/Routing (OSPF & BGPv4), IPv4 and IPv6 (will migrate to IPv6 over life of contract), multicast architecture and Routing Table Virtualization (VRFs)
  • Analyzes network topologies and traffic and capacity requirements
  • Supports the acquisition of hardware, software and subcontractor services as needed
  • May provide technical support and troubleshooting to users
  • May perform network administration duties
  • Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced network personnel and may have supervisory responsibilities
  • Serves as technical team or task leader
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned and participates in special projects as required

Qualifications

  • Government clearance required
  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience
  • Must possess 10-15 years of directly related experience in network analysis and design
  • CCNP or JNCIS Required
  • 8+ years of Network Integration experience
  • Demonstrated experience with Layer 2, 3 and 4 networking
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with OSPF and BGP routing protocols
  • Advanced knowledge of multicast protocols/architecture
  • Experience with IPv4
  • Experience with Juniper Network and Security products
  • Juniper Qfabric and MX knowledge
  • Understanding of Junos operating systems
  • Juniper MPLS
  • Familiarity with F5 Load Balancing and Access Policy desired
  • Ability to design and deploy Juniper MPLS/VPN and VRF network cores
  • Ability to monitor, troubleshoot and maintain the implemented transport solutions
  • JNCIS Enterprise Certification preferred
  • MCSE and knowledge of AD design desired
  • Knowledge of IPTV a plus
  • Knowledge of Remedy a plus
  • VMware experience and familiarity with VDI deployment desired
  • Multicast expertise desired (IPTv)
  • VoIP experience (VoIP) a plus
  • Familiarity with CIDRLs a plus
