Mō te tūranga | About the role 

We're looking for a Health & Safety Business Partner (Projects) to join our team on a two-year fixed-term contract supporting a significant programme of capital projects and planned works at the iconic Manapōuri Hydro Station. 

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in some of the most important work happening across Meridian's Generation portfolio. You'll partner closely with Project Managers, Site Leaders, staff and our contractor community to ensure health and safety is embedded in how work is planned, delivered and reviewed.

As our Health & Safety Business Partner, you'll work alongside project and operational teams to strengthen health and safety outcomes while helping ensure our systems, processes and ways of working remain practical, effective and fit for purpose. 

As part of our Health & Safety team, you'll provide technical advice on how best to manage health and safety risks, support project and task planning activities, facilitate learning and continuous improvement, and help our teams manage critical risks across a diverse programme of work. 

This role is based at Manapōuri Hydro Station and will work closely with site leadership, project teams and contractors throughout the delivery of the programme.

Ngā pukenga kei a koe mō tēnei tūranga | What you’ll bring 

We're looking for a safety champion who enjoys partnering with operational and project teams, can influence at all levels, and knows how to keep safety practical in a complex environment. 

You'll have a strong understanding of health and safety legislation, risk management and industry requirements, but more importantly you'll be someone who can build trusted relationships and work alongside people to achieve the best outcomes. 

To be successful in this role, you'll bring: 

  • Experience in a health and safety role within a high-risk industry such as energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, construction or heavy industry. 

  • The ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with leaders, frontline teams and contractors. 

  • Excellent coaching, facilitation and influencing skills. 

  • Experience supporting project-based work and helping teams identify and manage risks effectively. 

  • A passion for learning, continuous improvement and strengthening organisational capability. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

  • The ability to translate legislation, standards and regulatory requirements into practical and workable solutions. 

  • Experience in electricity generation, hydro operations or other large industrial environments would be advantageous. 

  • A relevant health and safety qualification would also be beneficial, although we're most interested in your practical experience and ability to make a difference.
