The Advanced Exterior Design and MB Style Division is one of the top advanced design studios in the world. A specialized group of designers, clay modelers and engineers work together to create future generation of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The Division’s location takes advantage of a community that features current and future design trends, its proximity to the largest market for Mercedes-Benz (the US). The team is a diverse cross section of nationalities and cultures that inspire to create a truly global automobile.
Job Description
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
To lead design and develop new vehicle concepts in conjunction with the Mercedes-Benz corporate identity and strategy. Contributes to Advanced and Production Design projects, create innovative sketches and renderings, and deliver design presentations.
- Visualizes ideas and concepts in 2-D form through sketches, renderings and tape drawings
- Creates compelling and appropriate vehicular concepts
- Translates 2-D concepts and ideas into 3-D
- Presents 2-D and 3-D concepts verbally, visually and in written form
- Follows design directives and provides input into creative process
- Conducts design related research
- Analyzes design, engineering and marketing information
- Understands and applies knowledge of industrial materials, methods and technologies
- Works within program guidelines as a project team member
- Performs computer-aided design
- Establishes and maintains contacts with suppliers
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation, Product or Industrial Design
- 8 years of relevant experience
- Ability to visualize ideas and translate them into concepts
- Develop 2-D designs with analog and digital medium
- Ability to analyze and predict trends
- Has experience directing Clay Modelers, as well as CAD Modelers
- Understands automotive engineering architecture and has a strong technical ability to create feasible designs
- Experience working on both Production and Concept car projects
- Has followed numerous automotive design projects from the conception phase to the manufacturing phase
- Experience working in an International OEM automotive studio
- Has lead junior and senior level designers through design programs and has a proven level of success
Preferred Qualifications:
- CAD proficiency
