Mendel.ai is a seed-funded health-tech startup based in Silicon Valley. Our mission is to help patients find the most cutting-edge treatment options befitting their condition. This requires exhaustive inferences between the sum total of current medical research and the patient’s medical history - an effort that is impossible for human experts to sustain. As a result, more than 40% of patients are administered sub-optimal treatments, often leading to devastating consequences. Mendel’s AI draws upon advances in natural language understanding and inference to tirelessly support the healthcare community in addressing this growing problem.

Mendel's AI solution involves deeply contextual natural language inference and decision-making. Our machine learning models, which use language modeling technologies including LSTMs and word2vec, are continually ingesting new data and being adapted for lateral tasks. You will be at the core of these efforts, working closely with the Chief Science Officer in experimenting with new approaches and pushing our latest advances into production.

Key requirements:

(1) A Master’s or PhD in mathematics, computer science or a related engineering discipline

(2) 2+ years of experience implementing deep neural networks

 (3) Strong familiarity with core mathematical principles essential for diagnosing and tuning models

(4) 2+ years of experience implementing models on GPUs with Tensorflow or Theano

Preferred candidates will have:

(1) A track record of contributions in machine learning methods for natural language input (through publications or presentations in reputed public forums) is highly desirable

(2) Experience working with RNNs and word embeddings for natural language tasks, particularly for natural language inference 

(3) Familiarity with computational linguistic concepts such as entity recognition and parse trees, or information retrieval with frameworks like ElasticSearch
