Tyler Union, a division of McWane, Inc., has proudly served the waterworks industry for over a century, specializing in the manufacturing and distribution of ductile iron fittings, joint restraints, and valve boxes. 

The Product Engineer supports the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of Tyler Union’s trugrip product line and related waterworks components. This role performs hands-on engineering work—including modeling, drafting, technical analysis, and validation testing—and collaborates closely with Operations, Foundry, Quality, and Sales to ensure products meet performance, manufacturability, quality, and compliance goals.

General Duties and Responsibilities

• Promote and uphold The McWane Way principles, values, and behaviors.
• Adhere to safety protocols outline in the Tyler Union Safety Management Program.
• Assist managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Follow ergonomic and safe lifting techniques.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report any issues.

      Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned.)

• Product Design & Development
  • Create and update 3D models, engineering drawings, and specifications for true grip products and related components
  • Assist with tooling design, simulation, dimensional analysis, and manufacturability improvements
  • Support engineering reviews, product modifications, and engineering change processes
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis for field issues, customer complaints, and internal quality concerns
  • Support cost‑reduction and value‑engineering initiatives
• Testing, Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Execute product validation tests, dimensional checks, and performance evaluations
  • Prepare test reports and technical documentation
  • Ensure product designs comply with applicable industry standards (XYZ)
  • Assist with third‑party testing, certification reviews, and audits
• Cross-Functional Support
  • Work with Foundry and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure designs align with casting, machining, and assembly capabilities
  • Collaborate with Quality on inspection standards, control plans, and continuous improvement activities
  • Provide technical product support to Sales, Customer Service, and customers, as needed
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Procurement regarding raw materials, tooling, and vendor capabilities
• Product Support
  • Support engineering schedules, milestones, and deliverables
  • Assist with documentation for new product introductions, change notices, and product releases
  • Maintain organized design files, test data, and engineering records

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
• 2-5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (metals, castings, machined components, or similar).
• Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).
• Knowledge of casting processes, machining, coatings, assembly, and inspection methods preferred
• Master’s degree in engineering or engineering management, preferred.
• Understanding of waterworks products and industry standards is a plus

Physical & Cognitive Abilities

• This role involves frequent physical activity, including climbing, walking, standing, stooping, balancing, and handling tools and materials. Employees must be able to lift to 50 pounds, as needed.
• The work environment varies between a standard office setting and a manufacturing plant. Plant conditions may include exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise.
• Regular walks through the plant are required. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as needed, including safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.
