Pay Range
$72,926-$109,389/year 

Compensation is determined by several factors, including location, relevant experience, skill level, and internal equity.  Please note, we don’t typically hire above midpoint.

Job Description

The Employee Relations Manager is an onsite leadership role based in our 24/7 airport operational facilities that will lead human resource operations. This role emphasizes employee and labor relations, ensuring that the organization adheres to employment laws, company policies and the collective bargaining agreement. This working manager will be responsible for the handling and oversight of team member employee relations issues, overseeing labor administration and collaborating with leadership on HR initiatives to enhance employee engagement and resolve workplace challenges.

This role primarily supports our Portland location but may require short notice of travel and the ability to periodically work alternate schedules to support our 24/7 operational teams. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with operations, HR leaders & legal on employee relations matters or other matters related to employment practices or claims.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to team members and leadership, addressing concerns, grievances and conflicts in a fair and confidential manner.
  • Investigate and resolve workplace issues, including team member complaints and misconduct allegations, ensuring appropriate and timely resolutions in a fast pace, 24/7 operation.
  • Mediate team member disputes and facilitate communication between team members and management to resolve issues and enhance satisfaction.
  • Guide leaders through performance management processes, including performance partnership, disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Actively participate in developing performance improvement plans (PIPs) and corrective actions, aiming to resolve issues or challenges before they escalate.
  • Develop and implement best in class practices and processes to promote effective team member relations to support a positive and welcoming work environment for all.
  • Develop and manage a strong partnership with labor union representatives while upholding our responsibilities as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Provide guidance on our labor contract, work closely with union representatives and oversee timely administration of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, equal employment opportunity (EEO) regulations, company policies and workplace safety standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HR laws and regulations, partnering with the HR Compliance Team to implement changes necessary to stay compliant.
  • Maintains the strictest confidentiality in all work aspects and ensures continuing data integrity.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on team member engagement strategies and appropriate workforce planning.
  • Positively and gracefully serves operations leaders by offering leadership coaching/mentoring.
  • Evaluate and assess employee relations data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement and future strategic initiatives.
  • Potentially supervise other HR team members directly or indirectly.
  • Maintain open and honest communication that creates an inclusive, engaging and high-performance culture that demonstrates McGee’s values of Safety, Service, Integrity, Mutual Respect, Accountability and Pride.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support McGee’s successful business operation.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Management, or related field, or 8 years equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 5+ years of business facing HR and/or Employee Relations experience.
  • Demonstrated competence in conducting workplace investigations.
  • Ability to work with different types of workforces including hourly employees working in a 24/7 operation.
  • Ability to work independently with strong multitasking capabilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to trave (approximately 5%).
  • Flexibility to work alternate shifts if needed to support 24/7 operations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Labor relations experience.
  • Human Resource Professional Certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR).
  • Aviation, Transportation, or related industry experience.

If an employee does not qualify for or has the necessary clearance revoked, the employee will be terminated.
