Salary Range

 $80,169 - $95,461

Compensation is determined by several factors, including location, relevant experience, skill level, and internal equity.  Please note, we don’t typically hire above midpoint.

Work Schedule

4 days onsite/1 day remote (once training period is complete), typically Monday-Friday.

Job Description

The Manager, Safety Management System and Quality Control develops, executes and administrates the Safety Management System (SMS) and Quality Control functions. While using discretion and independent judgment, this role holds oversight of the safety reporting process, management, and analysis of safety data for risk identification. In partnership with field operational safety teams, this role operates under only general supervision and uses data to ensure McGee meets its safety KPIs and we lead best-in-class safety outcomes resulting in a thriving safety culture within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for safety reporting policy, procedures, training, promotion. Ensures pertinent safety data is collected to provide clear and evident reporting processes for users. 
  • Development, implementation, and management of the SMS process and procedures to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. 
  • Lead working groups to develop standardized procedures, tools and share best practices for a robust SMS.
  • Develop tools that manage the output of SMS procedures for historical record keeping and analysis.
  • Analyze SMS performance and maintain relationships with industry experts to gain best practices and facilitate continuous improvement across the company.
  • Maintain, review, and assess SMS policies, procedures, and documentation on an ongoing basis and use initiative and experience to develop improvements.
  • Perform and guide risk assessments of potential and identified hazards through continuous monitoring of safety data and statistical analysis.
  • Development of McGee’s safety risk management and safety assurance policy and procedures while providing training and user support to the entire system.
  • Provide ongoing leadership to the quality control team, including team member coaching, development, and career paths. This role holds the leadership authority to hire, transfer, layoff, promote or take appropriate discharge action when necessary. 
  • Manage, develop and coordinate change management, risk assessments, and safety analysis withing the SMS and Quality Control systems.
  • Provide internal and external customer support through data, analysis and investigation needs.
  • Create reports, event analysis and presentations for stakeholders that share the output of analysis to support audits, investigations, Safety Action Programs, and ad-hoc reviews. 
  • Improve risk analysis methods through research, development of operational profiles and studies to assess performance of procedures and risk controls.
  • Provide corrective action recommendations through analysis of safety data analysis, to identify hazards and root causes.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual reports and ad hoc reports on incidents to support leader decisions.
  • Establish analysis procedures to identify potential factors that may lead to aviation accidents or incidents.
  • Develop metrics and apply analytical tools to identify trends and to assess known, corrected, or unknown risks.
  • Develop awareness and education materials to communicate SMS status and facilitate change management throughout the system.
  • Design and develop articles to share lessons learned from investigations and the SMS process to raise safety education and awareness levels within the industry for continuously improved culture and confidence in the SMS.
  • Oversight of scheduling and coordination of SMS training system wide.
  • Develop team capabilities through coaching, mentoring, and by providing regular and meaningful feedback.
  • Foster open and honest communication that creates an inclusive, engaging, and high-performance culture that demonstrates McGee's values of Safety, Integrity, Mutual Respect, Accountability and Pride.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support McGee’s successful business operation.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5 years of experience in aviation, safety, statistical analysis, mathematics, or a related area with at least 3 years in a people leadership role.
  • Knowledge of FAA Ground Handling SMS requirements, basic data collection points (Ground Incident Reports, Employee Injury Review System, Safety Hazard Reports, Employee Reporting System, etc.).
  • In depth knowledge of SMS and aviation industry best practices.
  • Data and Text, Risk, and Statistical Analysis.
  • Development of common taxonomies for safety analysis.
  • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Outstanding verbal and written skills, with the ability to present data and conclusions in an organized, concise manner at all levels throughout the company.
  • Ability to influence others, work cross-functionally, and contribute positively to a team-oriented, safety-first culture.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred:

  • Aviation, Transportation, or related industry experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
