The Corporate Communications team work hard to protect and enhance the reputation of the McDonald’s brand, its restaurants, franchisees and executives by ensuring communications in the media and within the company; are appropriate and on target.

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Corporate Communication team, as the Government Relations Manager. The Government Relations Manager is responsible for developing and implementing Government Relations strategies, engaging with Local, State and Federal Government stakeholders, whilst also managing issues and crises via direct engagement with key influencers within State and Federal Government Departments. Not for the faint hearted, this position calls for an enthusiastic and organised communications professional who is able to work to tight deadlines and truly get their hands dirty!

What can you expect on a day-to-day basis?

  • Develop and implement a proactive Government engagement strategy to support and promote McDonald’s business objectives.
  • Provide trusted advice to executives and senior management in all matters related to Government.
  • Monitor and forecast brand and regulatory risks via intelligence gathering and using sectoral and broader policy issues to shape the Government Relations strategy.
  • Support the Corporate Relations team’s broader internal and external communication strategic objectives.
  • Draft formal briefs, letters and speeches on behalf of the business and its executives.
  • Provide timely and regular updates to the McDonald’s system on emerging issues or successful outcomes.
  • Increase stakeholder understanding of McDonald’s business strategy and legislative priorities, positioning the McDonald’s brand as an industry leader in the national market.
  • Proactively engage key stakeholders at all levels of Local, State and Federal Government to gain and share insight with the business.
  • Manage and foster relationships with external groups, industry associations, key opinion leaders and other stakeholders to ensure McDonald’s business interests are met.
  • Educate and inform key stakeholders in sectors important to the brand, including: employment; agriculture; environment; health; and development.
  • Align with the Director of Corporate Relations to implement a whole-of-business commercially-focused external communications strategy to support State and Federal legislative reform.
