Job Description

As Technical Director you are responsible for the leadership and delivery of all the Mazarine subsurface work required to develop well planning, well execution, FDP's and profile/reserves determination. You ensure the delivery of the well proposals for exploration and development targets to a high and consistent standard, and you develop and maintain subsurface project schedules.

You manage the daily activities of the subsurface team in The Hague and recommend the activities of the subsurface teams in the countries where Mazarine operates. You set goals and objectives to the team to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, hold people accountable, lead the performance reviews and career development of the technical team. You propose change of team size when relevant and coordinate recruitment.

Together with your team you provide the New Business Development & Commercial team with technical support, as appropriate, and you lead the technical input into discussions with banks on Reserves Based Lending or similar arrangements and communicate with banks on asset performance.

Managing the subsurface team, you provide guidance and ensure that alternative interpretations are assessed by the geoscience and reservoir teams; that geological inputs and analysis for probabilistic and deterministic hydrocarbon volumetric evaluations and prospect risking are provided; that appraisal programs and development programs rapidly advance and that discoveries are developed.

The Technical Director contributes to strong and effective team-work and is willing and able to travel to countries as required (job is based in The Hague, The Netherlands).

Responsibilities:

  • To manage and coordinate reservoir engineering and geological & geophysical activities related to subsurface for Mazarine’s global activities; and ascertain that the responsibilities of the Mazarine subsurface teams are carried out;
  • To promote, plan and design efficient exploration of existing concessions, appraisal and development of discoveries and evaluation of potential new growth areas in line with the corporate business objectives;
  • To ensure issuance of consistent investment proposals, based on sound technical analysis and relevant risk evaluation resulting in classifications as exploration, appraisal or development wells.
  • To propose wells to be drilled, worked over or re-entered from reservoir studies; Ensure that consistent and comprehensive well proposals are timely issued to enable the planning of drilling activities and the preparation of the Drilling/Workover plans in coordination with the Drilling Departments;
  • To contribute to the development and execution of short to mid-term plans, aligned with Mazarine strategic priorities, and corporate goals;
  • To participate in major development projects / studies carried out, identify the in-house resources and / or outside consultants / agencies required, plan the subsurface part of new field (re-)development projects, and formulate alternative field/reservoir development scenarios;
  • To lead and manage the activities and work performed by the team to ensure that it is carried out in an efficient and effective manner, in line with the annual business plans, and policies and procedures;
  • To recommend training and development interventions for team members to build their capabilities;
  • To contribute to knowledge dissemination/sharing and maximize employees’ effective performance;
  • To provide information and recommendations to the Management Team and the Board.

Qualifications

  • (Minimum) MSc degree in Engineering, preferably in Petroleum Engineering, Geoscience/Geology, or any other related discipline;
  • Ability to evaluate asset development opportunities by integrating geology, geophysics, petrophysics, reservoir, well & production facility data; with a sound knowledge of, and experience in gas, oil reservoir and production engineering;
  • Well-developed knowledge of varied geological basin types;
  • Proven track record of managing and demonstrable leadership qualities of a diverse team;
  • Strong command of the English language, with good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Analytical approach to solving complex technical problems in a multi-disciplinary environment, together with an ability to communicate in a simple and concise manner on the subject;
  • Excellent reporting and presentation skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines;
  • Good knowledge of the industry standard petroleum engineering tools. Knowledge of PETEX suite, Prosper, Saphir, Petrel, Eclipse (or most of those) is strongly recommended;
  • Extensive exposure to petroleum engineering activities, ranging from exploration support and field development planning through to well planning and operations.
