About the role
We are looking for a highly motivated Law Clerk to join our Road & Work Injuries (WorkCover) team in our Melbourne office on a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing plaintiff practice supporting clients who have sustained workplace injuries. Working closely with an experienced legal team, you will provide high-quality legal and administrative support, help drive an exceptional client experience and contribute to the efficient management of WorkCover matters from commencement through to resolution.
Key responsibilities
- Champion the Maurice Blackburn values and advocate for clients to make a positive difference in their lives.
- Provide legal and administrative support to an established WorkCover legal team.
- Assist with the day-to-day management of WorkCover files under the supervision of lawyers.
- Draft correspondence and legal documents using precedents.
- Coordinate claims documentation and liaise with clients, insurers, medical providers and other external stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and key internal and external stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with lawyers and legal support staff to deliver exceptional client service.
- Proactively support the team to maintain efficiency and achieve high performance.
- Provide confidential administrative support, including file management, diary coordination and document preparation.
- Contribute to mentoring and supporting junior legal support staff where required.
The experience we are looking for
We're looking for someone who is organised, proactive and passionate about delivering exceptional client service. Ideally, you'll bring:
- Experience as a Law Clerk or Senior Legal Assistant within Personal Injury, WorkCover or a similar plaintiff practice.
- A sound understanding of WorkCover claims, court processes and legal procedures.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- High-level administrative and file management skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Teams (Excel experience is advantageous).
- The ability to handle confidential information with professionalism, discretion and sound judgement.
