About the team

We’re offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated Legal Assistant to join our dedicated Abuse Law team on a full-time, permanent basis. Located in our Melbourne CBD office, you’ll play a key role in supporting a diverse and meaningful caseload of Abuse Law matters.

Maurice Blackburn has a long history of practising in Abuse Law, and of advocating on the part of survivors of childhood sexual abuse. As a Legal Assistant, you'll play an important role in ensuring our clients receive a seamless, supportive experience while providing administrative and legal support to the team. You'll thrive in this role if you're organised, proactive and enjoy working in a collaborative environment where your work genuinely makes a difference. 

What you will be doing

  • First point of contact for client enquiries, professional, prompt, and helpful.  
  • Keep clients in the loop with clear, timely updates.  
  • Support client files from start to finish. 
  • Prepare correspondence, legal documents and court materials.  
  • Manage diaries, appointments and meetings.  
  • Process mail and correspondence.  
  • Handle client billing and related admin.  
  • Support the legal team with general administrative tasks. 

About you 

  • Previous experience as a Legal Assistant is desirable, but not essential, perhaps you have been in a similar support or administrative role.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues. 
  • Outstanding organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities. 
  • A trustworthy, professional approach to handling confidential client information.  
  • A genuine learning mindset, you’re eager to expand your knowledge and skillset.  
  • Comfort with legal technology and AI tools, or enthusiasm to build proficiency quickly.  
  • An interest in commercial awareness, understanding how matters run efficiently for clients.  
  • A proactive approach to process improvement, you’re someone who spots better ways of doing things and isn't afraid to suggest them.
